He didn’t stomp at all. He moved around the ball to take a stance, I think it’s complete bs this is a 2 stroke penalty possibly

He walked in with the intent to improve his shot and trying to play all innocent. Cheaters should be DQ but he will just lose 2 strokes and cry about it.

Yup. If it was in lower grass he would have had to walk same path to align and hit.

ETA: I don’t like Bryson as much as the next guy but that’s not right.

ETA: F him he’s talking about not playing tomorrow. Making it about him.

ETA: just saw the before. He did. He was standing on the tall root ball behind the ball.

REALLY? How long have you been playing golf?
Paige was crucified on here for pretty much the same thing in the YouTube Challenge.

You have to look at the first part of the video when he FIRST enters the area. CLEARLY steps down on the taller fescue. In his defense, Not sure where you step without trampling down any, or some, of the fescue.

Bryson pumpers out in force.

Gotcha. Only saw the last part when grass reeds were already crushed down.

He clearly should have rappelled down from a helicopter to hit that shot

I just got back to TV found out about what happened in this thread.

Saw the incident while it was happening and I thought the people who found his ball layed the weeds down. I did not see as he walked in though. But what I saw him do did not improve his lie. I did however say to myself somebody might look at what I saw him doing in the negative.

Now I saw the replay. The last step he did as he stepped up to hit the ball was the one that got him. It looked like he was improving his swing. I'm a Bryson fan.

Rule 8.1 (Player’s Actions That Improve Conditions Affecting the Stroke).

Key Points (Official R&A/USGA Rules):You must "play the course as you find it."

Prohibited: Deliberately moving, bending, breaking, or pressing down growing grass (including fescue) if it improves your lie, stance, swing area, or line of play.
Stomping or heavily flattening grass = general penalty (2 strokes / loss of hole).
Allowed: Lightly grounding your club, or incidental slight bending while fairly taking your stance (least intrusive way). Normal walking/searching steps are usually OK if not deliberate improvement.

You see players do that all the time when they’re in the tall gunch. It is against the rules it just never gets enforced unless they go stomping around.

The way he stepped on the grouping of grass that would have been in his backswing both to 'go take another look' and then again as he went to address the ball did not appear unintentional.

HAHA.

People can say what they want. The dude absolutely took an abnormal path back to the ball to tamp that stuff down giving him room for his backswing.

Of course he did. I don't think they call that if he just stomps around where he was standing. It was the stomping directly behind the ball
