The Masters penalized Tianglang Guan, a 14 year old am, like 15 years ago for slow play. While every guy out there takes forever.

I didn't get to watch The Open due to work. I took the Mrs. out to dinner, came home, and sat down to watch Golf Channel highlights. There's a guy I've never heard of on the top of the leaderboard. A couple of guys posted 62. I watched for well over an hour and didn't see a single highlight of anyone's round.
All they could talk about was this drama. I went to bed angry. Show me some damned golf!

Considering how much Bryson gets shown on TV, you would think that the officials would know that at some point something is going to look suspicious. So put an official with him who actually has eyes on the situation rather than a video. All the YouTubes I watched on the situation, who said he may not have been intentionally breaking the rules but deserved to be penalized, are wrong.
Basically, if an official is not present, he listens to the player, and then sees if his fellow players witnessed anything. The player is actually the final arbiter in that situation, especially if the player is making a rational explanation of the situation... and knows the rule in question. It was a terrible display of officiating. Even the crowd the next day affirmed it as much.

They are 100% correct and you are wrong. The rule plainly states that intent is irrelevant. Read Rule 8.1.
Further, there is, I believe, a rules official with each group. He is there to answer questions or disputes. He is not there to babysit them. Many times the 2 players could be dozens of yards apart. These guys having been playing this game, essentially by the same rules, for many years. If they don't know what's up by now, that's on them.
