Spending a few nights in St. Francisville this weekend and have some free time Saturday. Heard the Bluffs is in really bad shape. Was wondering if anyone has played there recently and if it is even worth playing.

Better off spending your money at Beaver Creek. Last 3 times playing the bluffs its just been a steady decline.

Not worth it.

I think if you play midweek it’s only about $30 to play. Even at that rate, it’s not worth it. That’s how bad it is.

I am of the belief that anytime you get an opportunity to play, you should. Especially if it’s a course you may not play again. I believe The Bluffs is a really cool layout and a peaceful round with some holes that provide great views and some shots you wouldn’t normally hit elsewhere. That being said, it’s condition doesn’t warrant paying over $50/round.

It’s just sad going there now. Remembering the early 2000’s when the course was just amazing.

Played my first national junior tournament there. I remember how it was my first experience with a ‘tour’ level course. Especially compared to the Pine Hills in Calhoun I was used to.

Talked to my first college golf coach there. Now it’s just sad to see it now.

It is actually in decent shape right now considering their budget is $0. The rain we have gotten this summer has made the course pretty nice. It’s not U Club or CCL but more than playable and still a fun course.

Not sure why people are bashing it. Some of the holes were poorly designed from the beginning but it’s always a nice experience while there. Very much a Country Club feel without having to join.

Not sure the last time you were out there but the Bluffs, and it’s ownership, is a shite show right now.

Two lawyers owned it, the one that gave a shite died, there was a huge fallout between the deceased’s family and the other lawyer. Now it’s a worst case scenario with a lawyer that gives no fricks owns it. He’s trying to sell it. Spending $0 to keep it up. Bilking the homeowners for thousands a month while they work to buy the other parts that don’t include the golf course and club house.

Most people love that place. What they’re bashing is the current situation, not necessarily the overall design of the golf course.

I thought Dodson sold it to a group of homeowners at the Bluffs?

It’s been a clusterfrick for a few years now and you’d have to be more specific in what you mean by ‘it’.

If you mean the bluffs in it’s entirety; then no, Dodson never sold the entirety of the bluffs to homeowners.

It’s a complex timeline with a lot of moving parts that includes everything from attempts to outright sale, relinquish to the parish, homeowners taking over, etc.

The latest email I saw between Dodson and the homeowners indicated that Dodson was still looking for buyers for the golf course and main clubhouse while the homeowners were getting financials together to take over the pool, trails, and various other ancillary parts. Dodson also indicated that staffing would be severely reduced and most everything was shutting down.

Gotcha

I went last summer over the 4th and found the course to be in decent shape. Granted, it had rained a good bit in the weeks leading up to it so that might be why everything was pretty green, but while we were there we went to the pool and some residents told us they had bought "it" and were going to run it as a private course with public access.

I guess they ran into some roadblocks.
