Is Ludvig Aberg the most overrated player in recent memory?

The guy may win many majors one day but for a dude who only has a single win in a weak field November event, I have never seen such magnificent unjustified praise.

People talk about him as if he is God’s gift to the game of golf.

Again, might be a hall of famer one day with 10 majors. But right now?

I think people don’t realize how old he actually is

He is already 25, but he “feels” 21 because he just got on tour

Rory and Spieth had 3 majors at that age

Spieth had 3 as well

Aberg is a really good golfer but he isn’t that special when it comes to young success

He's been on tour for 1.5 years at current. 25 years old

1 win, another top 10
12th FedEx cup standings
6th OWGR

Yeah, he's totally over rated. They probably should just stop talking about him altogether.

He does get talked about as one of the best young talents EVER

Yet, in the last two decade alone we have had two golfers with 3 majors each at his age….

Hell, Willy Z was going exactly what Aberg was at the same age until his back gave out

ETA: I forgot Morikowa. He had2 majors at 25 as well

I haven't heard that. If that's being said, they need to pump the brakes.

He's certainly the best young talent on tour right now though.

He’s clearly got tons of ability. I had him in my survivor pool last week and he went from a commanding lead to finishing several back. Hes got more learning to do for sure

There’s an argument for Joaquin Niemann (26) being just as good or better than Aberg (25), but Aberg is propped up by the PGA Tour & OWGR

Aberg has played 4 majors

He already has a top 10 and 2 top 20s

Niemann has played 23 majors

0 top tens and 1 top 20

Don’t confuse overrated with bad. I didn’t say he was bad. He’s fantastic. He’s no doubt a top 10-15 golfer on earth.

Tyrrell Hatton is 8th in the world. Literally no one talks him up like Ludvig.

Hideki Matsumyama is just ahead of Aberg at 5th in the world. Is a major winner with 11 wins. Has won THREE TIMES since Ludvig’s lone win, all in bigger events than the Sanderson Farms. Hideki does not get a fraction of the praise that Ludvig gets.

McNeese State’s finest Bobby Macintyre. 2 wins since Ludvig’s win. Also member of Europe Ryder Cup team. Close in age. Not even in Ludvig’s stratosphere of hype.

Yeah, he should learn not to get the norovirus when he's in the lead. Dude was puking his guts out and still played pretty decent given the conditions. He could have easily WD'd, but he stuck it out.

I think he's an incredible talent that needs to learn how to finish. He's been a pro for a year and a half. Give him time.

Hell, last year at this time we could have had the same conversation about Xander.

I started a "What is Aberg's ceiling" thread a while back because of all the constant praise he was getting. Seemed like almost everyone in the thread said he was going to be a multiple major winner, a bunch of tour wins and a hall of famer.

I tend to disagree.

I hate to agree with the LIV shill but I view it as a positive for Niemann that he has earned his way into 23 majors while Ludvig has only played 4. Niemann is only a year older.

Overhyped yes. Good player yes. The PGA tour is so desperate to have the next young star that they highlight him any chance they can get.

Robert Mcentyre, Austin Eckroat, Nick Taylor all have more wins the last two years but gets less than half the coverage of Aberg.

He also finished 2nd at the Masters and T12 at the US Open. I'd say for his first 4 majors, that's not a bad clip.

And Niemann has never finished better than T16 at a major in 22 attempts. And the tournament Aberg beat him was the Masters, where again, he finished 2nd.

And just as I typed that he WD'd from Pebble.
