I’m going to be playing a round with friends. I have a legit handicap, one friend has a handicap using an app on his phone, and the other 2 friends bitch and complain that whatever handicap we give them
Is too low. Those 2 only play a few rounds a year.

Does anyone have a fair way to determine their handicap? I thought we could take the scores over par after playing the round, set handicap for each player, determine pairings for skins, the figure out who won which holes? Is there a better way? Appreciate it.

Why do you need a handicap while just playing a round with friends?

I'd be pissed if you are tried doing it that way. Better set those handicaps before the round so everyone knows what they are playing for.

We're sitting there at the bar after the round and you tell me because I shot an 89 I get paired with X and now owe Y and Z $100 because of your "calculations" I'd tell you right where you could find it

The only way to determine it is just negotiate. Come to a conclusion of either what every one thinks is fair, or more likely what no one thinks is fair. That's probably the middle. Then agree to adjust after 9.

Valid point and we have tried. Nothing but bitching from those 2 saying they are getting screwed. They suggest 2 strokes per hole but don’t realize a 36 is taken off the lowest handicap in the group, which is a 15-16. They want 36 not 18-20. Lol

Play some type of game like Wolf.
Handicaps aren't really that important.

If 2 golfers are significantly better than the other 2 spot those guys a few strokes on each side based on hole handicaps and let that influence to Wolf game.

You might be more inclined to pick a guy that is getting an extra stroke.

Ask their average round and best round. Average those 2 numbers and let them play that number (over par) as their handicap.

So, if they average 95 but their best round is 88, then give them a 20 handicap assuming par 72.
