Change.org petition that never works out. City park is profitable and they’re making improvements. Everything they’re suggesting is going to be included in the lake Reno or is already at the park.

Don’t support varsity sports if you like golf.

I like the way you think. I agree with charging more, its ridiculous to take 5 hours to play Santa Maria.

I'm joining copper and money Hill. I can drive to either of those finish a round and get back to br in less time than it takes to play SM.

Mississippi has great courses..... There are no where near $50

Clark has been almost too successful... it is adding oressure to BREC to maintain Webb and city park.

That being said, if Webb and city park had greens like clark, they could charge 45 per round no issue filling course up

It’s the opposite of how BREC handles things. Yes, taxes go the parks. But golf isn’t for everyone. There’s WAY too many rounds at their courses and that’s where everything starts to go downhill.
Don’t look at the shape of the course and charge accordingly. You’ve got to thin out the herd. When you do that, conditions will improve. There’s good people at the courses, but there’s no time. You don’t need that much money, you need TIME.
You can pass by Webb at 6:30 am and there’s golfers on the 3rd hole. What do you expect to get done with that kind of traffic?
Run the courses like a real golf course and you’ll see real results.

Raising the price will help the amount of play and give the course extra funds to maintain with

I am well versed on turf and disease control, treatments were applied at the wrong time this year and too late when turf damage started.

Also the irrigation has had issues that needed to be addressed. They should have no reason to let Santa Maria greens get the way they did this year. That's is their "primo" course. If you have to shut play down to help the course get the attention or needs/cut out the traffic.

The could have taken the Copper Mill approach and shut it down to get everything in shape.

Why do the greens stay so wet at City Park? Also they redid #7 and added irrigation. It has moguls on it now. Very tough to putt on. Also not sure why they didn’t take the sand trap out on #7? #2, #9, and the putting green are being redone as well. Please comment and speak out on the need to keep CP an affordable golf course and a buffer from the Gardens District and the hood.

Actually yea. I'm all out of coupons. I used all of my "2 for 1" coupons at your moms last night.

Seriously, there's something rich about a guy complaining about all the brokies at the municipal golf course. Has it ever occurred to you that if you don't want to play with the poors you sign up for a club and play the private clubs?

I play private but it would be awesome to be able to play Webb from time to time for nostalgia. I used to play it almost every day in college and now it’s unplayable. If it were playable I would mind spending more on a green fee.

I’m not complaining about “brokies”
I called you broke cause you felt the need to throw insults.
I referred to golfers as “cheap”, as in expecting a great deal when the fact is there is nothing about this game that’s a “deal”.
Everything in the world has an increasing price tag, including the maintenance of golf….and you want a green fee for $20. Go to the grocery store and see what $20 gets you.
If “poor” is what you consider yourself, the go chip in your backyard.

I never said I wanted a green fee for $20. I said that Webb wasn't in good shape. The greens had been punched twice in two weeks. I said it was a good deal that you could play for 20 given it's current state. At no point did I say that Brec should have priced it at $20. At no point did I say that golf should be cheap. At no point did I say that Brec shouldn't raise the prices, weed out the foot traffic and get the courses in better shape. I never argued against any of that. That's just what you assumed when you went on your petty little rant like a teenage girl.

Actually, I went and played it this weekend. It was in better shape than it has been previously. It's still not up to the quality of a private course, but it's playable. I was surprised at how much better it has gotten in the past two months.

Webb, at a minimum, should be $50 a round

Lord no... It's no where near a 50 buck a round course.. it could be, but no...

quote:

Santa Maria and Beaver should be $75.

I mean they're 60ish on the weekends and that's about right for the area and conditions..

It certainly is...

He means based on location and demand. Those are prime real estate areas. They should be way nicer and be charging more.

Ah, in that case Santa Maria should be one of the nicest courses in BR ... But it isn't

There’s only 2 ways it can go;
Either the course runs the golfer or the golfer runs the course.
For courses trying to keep their head above water (mostly semi-private clubs) the golfer has way too much pull, because they are desperately trying pull a profit.

Courses stay packed and slow and maintenance is given no real consideration aside from bare bones basic practices. Those practices will become the death of the course eventually.

If you’re closed one day a week and average a 100 golfers a day (which is a ton), you’re over 30,000 rounds. That’s too much golf for a course and there’s courses in this area close to 40,000.

You’ve got to run the golfer. Weekdays 8am start (weekends 7:30am)
12-15 minute gaps (20 would be better)
Regulate certain times for singles, two-somes, three-somes and four-somes (five-somes is the worst idea in golf!)
Do whatever needs to keep your rounds around 20,000 that will dictate price.

BREC already has taxpayer money to play with before the first shot is took. They are in a prime position to run the golfer, but just won’t.
I understand trying to keep everyone happy with parks and zoos and community activities.

But that’s not golf. It wasn’t meant to be that kind of sport. And stats prove it. It’s an expensive activity on a 100 acres or more. All those courses that developed during the boom of the 70’s-90’s are all but closed. We’re inching back to private, casino, resort or muni. And really they all have resources.

It’s just who runs who….
