This is such a complex topic. If the goal of BREC is to provide places for as many people to play for as cheap as possible, I think they are doing a fine job. The prices are low enough and the product decent enough that they are accomplishing that goal.
On the flip side, if their goal is to run the 5 golf courses in their portfolio as best as they could like they were doing it for a profit, I think they are failing miserably. There are a ton of options that they could do that would make things significantly better. Many of those options are listed in this thread.
In my perfect world, BREC would hire Brian Silva (guy who redid Metairie), King Collins (Sweetens Cove), or someone that can imitate that style of architecture to come in and build new, bigger greens at Webb and City Park. Bold contours and big greens are the best way to make golf in Louisiana interesting and fun. This style would have less wear and tear as the smaller greens currently have. They would be more fun for bad golfers and more fun for good golfers. If you did big enough greens at City Park, you could do two pins per hole. It gives you a ton of options and would turn the two courses in the best location into must play golf courses, imo.

I disagree. BREC has been implementing this model for a long time. If this were a success, Baton Rouge would be the Mecca for golf at this point. We should be pumping out the most golfers of any area. Very few places have had what BREC has given us in number of courses per population. No one seems to enjoy it and people even less skilled and less money seem to like quality courses.

Very very few courses turn a profit. Most successful ones are going for breakeven and are definitely having to reinvest any profits back into the course.

Kevin is a good guy. Hope he does well.
He was doing a Titleist fitting at our club (Reunion) yesterday and I chatted it up with him for a while. Really nice guy
