Planning a golf trip next year, driving from New Orleans and planning on playing Rock Creek on the way to OBA. Then gulf shores golf club Saturday morning and kiva dunes Sunday morning but need a suggestion for Saturday afternoon round. Any courses that stand out? Perdido golf club? Definitely going to skip lost key, not trying to ruin the trip lol.

Peninsula is solid and always well kept, it's very close to Kiva Dunes, so you could switch kiva to the day your playing 36, it'd make it pretty convenient

Peninsula is always good and you can't go wrong with the Craft Farm courses. A hidden gem is Glen Lakes when it is in good shape. Peninsula would seem to be the best option for you, as it is just down the road from GSGC. Enjoy your trip, sounds good!

I’ve heard peninsula is outrageously expensive for what it is, can anyone confirm?

It's not cheap. The carft farms courses are cheaper if that's what you are looking for.

Also, there have been some people talk about courses in fairhope. Lost Key isn't too far away either.

This is my Gulf Shores Golf post that I've posted and added to over the years:

Soldier’s Creek- Never played it, but it is owned by the Woerner’s (Turf company), so I assume the grass is green.

Peninsula- If you are going to drive there, play Kiva Dunes. if you can’t afford it, play Gulf Shores Golf Club, but if you play Peninsula, enjoy an apple from the barrel between nines. It's the third best golf course on Ft. Morgan Road.

GSCC- Great course, one of my favorites in Alabama. Difficult layout, but fair.

Craft Farms- Nice but nothing special. You will leave your round and say “wow, that was a well-kept course, but something I could have played in Baton Rouge.” That statement applies to both courses. It is a neighborhood course off the beach.

Kiva Dunes- It is the quintessential gulf coast golf course. It’s just off the beach and is home to some of the most picturesque holes in the South. It is unbearably difficult from the tips with the wind, but from up a tee, it becomes manageable and fun. It is always in good shape and has an excellent practice facility.

Perdido Bay Golf Club- Nice, but difficult. It is in close proximity to Lost Key.

Lost Key- known as Lost Ball. That should tell you everything you need to know.

GlenLakes Golf Club- you can book four people for like $17 a person. It’s a nice course as well. Definitely the best bang for your buck, by far. No where in the same league as Kiva or GSCC, but for $17, you can't beat it.

State Park- walked off after 18 and said, we'll, it was still golf. Too many other options to play around town to play the state park.

Definitive Ranking of all East Alabama, West Florida Golf Courses

1- Kiva Dunes
2- Gulf Shores Golf Club
3- Craft Farms (either)
3- Glenlakes Golf Club
3- Peninsula

6- Perdido Bay Golf Club
7- Lost Ball

The tie for three is based on what you are looking for out of your golf round.

Played Peninsula (marsh/lakes) around late morning this spring (rates dropped from roughly $90 in morning to $70 at 11) and absolutely loved it, thought it was an incredible layout and insanely well kept.

Also played GSCC and albeit very well kept, there really wasn't much that was near as memorable. Also, the price wasn't much less ($77 I think?) so we didn't feel the bang for our buck near as much as Peninsula.

Really looking forward to getting back and getting to play Kiva next time around as they had aerated the week before we went.

Kiva Dunes is a great track, wind makes it very tough. Great condition. Magnolia Grove is also great on the way in or back to NO.

That’s what we usually hit on a winter run, Lost Key is too easy.

Kiva is by far the beat course in that area. I am lucky enough to play there a few times a year and enjoy each outing.

Peninsula is sorta blah for the price.

I keep hearing Lost Key is about to be a high rise condo complex - so play it while you can.

Lost key isn’t going to be high rise. Lots of townhouses 2 to 3 story units in the development. Even those are becoming an issue. Overbuilt and quality is going down. Many are on market as second sale now. Which isn’t a good sign for the new units.

No elevators in the units and the layout require you to go/up down too much for older targeted buyers.

All that means the development will probably slow down.

Won’t consume the golf club.

I actually like Perdido Bay better than the other courses in the area other than Kiva.

Anyone have an idea on course conditions after all this rain. Looking to play next week. Would like Kiva and GSGC

Kiva will be fine

Edit - call before hand and make sure they are not punching fairways or greens before you play.

I guess I am in the minority here. Kiva is so overrated, not as well maintained as in the past, especially the bunkers.

Peninsula is well worth it. Rock Creek is more fun than any of them. Craft Farms is not bad; always in good shape.

On my 4 day golf trip, I would play Magnolia Grove in Mobile, Peninsula, Kiva or GSCC, and Rock Creek.

Going down to GS to play this weekend. Peninsula is good and Craft Farms is on the paths. Heard Kiva Dunes was in great shape before the rains.

Always loved lost key. Guess some of y’all struggle to keep your ball in play

I agree. Lost Key reminds me of some Hilton Head courses I’ve played. If you want to blast driver off of every tee, you’re going to have a bad experience. If you just hit it in the middle, even if that means 4 iron off the tee, you can score low there. I’ve enjoyed it the few times I’ve played it.

Played Peninsula and Cotton Creek this weekend. Cotton Creek was good, but Peninsula was spectacular. Peninsula would be perfect for your Saturday afternoon round. Make your tee times early (both courses were packed) and check on Maintenance schedules, but you will enjoy either of the 3 layouts. Just down the street from GSGC, also.
