the number of people ages 6-and-up who played at least one round of golf last year increased modestly to 24.2 million from 23.8 million in 2017. That may seem like an inconsequential difference — and it is within the margin of error — but it’s the first measured increase in that category in 14 years.

Maybe not. First increase since 2005. I figured 2008 economy would have been the first year decline.

I'm having to give credit to the economy going up. Like it or not golf is, as a majority, a rich man's sport.

The 3.6% unemployment effect.
Golf is one of the first discretionary expenses to go when people have to tighten the belt

Not surprising. It is far easier and maybe cheaper than travel ball. Baseball and Soccer used to be cheap compared to golf. Now that isn't the case always.

6. Increase in cost and time commitment of other youth sports like Travel Baseball and Soccer.
