Its interesting how people complain about driver distance of tour players but then courses keep removing trees and making courses even more accommodating to just bombing drivers anywhere on every hole. They wouldn't need to worry about driver distances if more courses punished inaccurate tee shots better.

99% of play on these golf courses is done by amateurs. Tree removal is mostly for a couple of reasons; getting back to the original design and/or to improve turf conditions. The more trees you have, the more difficult it is to grow good grass. So, yes, less trees may make things easier on driving for professionals, but that is less of a concern for these clubs doing renovations.

In the ESPN article Cam Young said he was playing the rollback ball and didn't notice a difference in distance

Golf is nothing but driver and a multitude of different wedges into greens for the pros these days. Kind of boring TBH.

What they were trying to do was the worst of both worlds. It was going to cause a bunch of issues with normal am events because a bunch of 1-2 year old balls were going to be non-conforming, but it wouldn't have actually had any impact on distance as seen by Cam Young's performance with a ball that would be conforming.

Hopefully they lower the driver size and forgiveness for pros. That is the only way to actually make an impact. I know equipment companies aren't fans of bifurcation, but if you actually want to prevent courses from having to go to 7,750+ yards and everything that comes with it, that is the route they have to go.

Easy solution they won’t do.

Put hazards or punitive rough at 320.

Could reduce clubs to 12 and increase shot making creativity

Which is funny because tour pros already use different equipment not available at retail.

It's already bifurcated, just not "officially"

Simply asking courses to build hazards is not an easy solution. The whole point of implementing a roll back is because only certain courses can spend the money needed to counter distance gains. Most courses can't afford it. Also, Doral is a great example of why this doesn't work. In the mid 2010s they put hazards where pros drove the ball. 10 years later, that is no longer where they drive the ball. They spent all that money for nothing.

I agree with the earlier poster. Pros have been bitching this entire time when a rollback on all balls was suggested. Fine, let's move forward with bifurcation. Shrink the driver heads to actually punish mishits. Pros won't be able to swing out of their arse to get the ball as far as they can when there is a consequence to hitting it off the toe or heel. If a weekend warrior really wants to play what the pros play, have at it.

Yea if the rollback helps with this I'm all for it. Way too many great courses getting unplayable or having to make major changes to make them playable to keep up with equipment and ball technology.

This is over stated. Some is different, some isn't. What is different isn't significant enough to even think of the word bifurcated.

Well The Senator here at Prattville just stops mowing. Balls go in the cabbage there, you have to step on to find. Nobody can hack it out of there unless you get lucky.

Redesigning golf courses is the opposite of an easy solution.

What a dumb comment.
