The largest number of LIV players participating as of right now is 12 with the lowest for 2024 being 9. I suspect the 4 majors are going to have to pivot quickly for fear of losing TV ratings due to the fact the majority of the stars are on LIV. Gooch not qualifying in any of these is insane given how impressive his play was last year on LIV.

7 LIV players “should” qualify for Olympics this year. Hopefully, they can maintain their spots on OGR until June.

14 qualified back in 2020.

Would be a minimum of 20 LIV guys playing in Masters if OWGR was an accurate ranking system

Who else are you including in this list outside of Niemann, Gooch, Oosthuizen, and then maybe Varner and Kokrak?

Mito Pereira (6 Top 10)

Dechambeau
Garcia
Hatton
Johnson
Koepka
Meronk
Mickelson
Rahm
Reed
Schwartzel
C. Smith
Watson

Niemann
Gooch
Oosthuizen
Varner
Kokrak
Ancer
Na
Pieters
Pereira
Burmester

Almost all of those were top 50 before joining LIV. Burmester is an outlier, but has been playing so well outside of LIV - he’s back in top 100.

Lol. I don’t think the 4 majors are worried about losing ratings.

Just because someone was in the top 50 before they got to LIV does not mean they’re currently a top 50 player.

I'm pretty skeptical any of the majors worry about the ratings drop that comes with Gooch, Varner, Herbert or whoever else not being in the field.

& just because someone is ranked in the top 50 now, does not mean they’re currently a top 50 player.
Na was good enough to play in The Masters the last 5 years in a row, but I guess he’s just the 756th best golfer in the world now

Grayson Murray actually thinks he’s a top 50 player in the world meanwhile you have:

Bryson Dechambeau #166
Dustin Johnson #202
Patrick Reed #94
Abraham Ancer #154
Joaquin Niemann #66

I genuinely can’t tell if you’re a troll or not. Any LIV star with ratings traction will be playing in the majors. Talor Gooch doesn’t move the needle.

Man, this statement is worn out. When it comes to majors, moving the needle doesn’t matter - it’s about having the best players in the world.

Adrian Meronk, Harris English, or Grayson Murray don’t move the needle either but they’re all in the top 50.

Gooch was ranked higher than all 3 of those when he left for LIV. Since then he’s won 3 times, but now he’s ranked 373

People will watch majors regardless. It’s the rest of the tournaments that are affected by fields. And if we’re being honest, if Tiger is in the majors, that alone will drive the ratings

I was responding to his point that the majors will rethink things because guys like gooch won’t be there. The majors don’t give a damn about Talor gooch.

I’m not saying he’s a bad player, I’m saying he’s irrelevant to the majors ratings.

No, but according to data golf he’s currently 219th in the world including LIV events.

His last 10 tourneys:
T42 in Saudi Open
Losing 1.7 strokes to the field in LIV team championship

Everything else is in a 48 man field:
T35
T32
T11
T43
T11
T27
T6
44

Not exactly the same guy he once was.

Eta: obviously OWGR has flaws. Kevin Na not being in the top 50 is not one of them.

Choices have consequences
Right or wrong and whatever your opinion is, these players knew that when they took the dough

Noticed this tidbit posted at bottom of 2024 Masters invite list:
quote:

^ The Masters Committee, at its discretion, also invites international players not otherwise qualified.

Currently 81 players on invite list.

They will play with 90-95 guys & the only guys getting invites at this point, I believe, are additional OWGR guys or winners on Tour the week before.

IMO This leaves the door open for a few LIV guys - Niemann, Ancer, Oosthuizen, Burmester

Seriously? Ancer and Mean Dean Burmester should get Masters invites?
