The guy you encountered did overreact. I live on a course and my house is 60 yards from a green on a long par 4. I designed my house so no windows were facing oncoming shots. Been here 17 years and only one broken window when a guy skulled one out of a green side bunker. He was kind enough to volunteer to pay for the damage when I walked out to see what happened.

As a homeowner on a course, you do have to have a sense of humor about some stuff, but you also don’t expect players to disrespect your property. When there are clear OB markers, get out of the cart and walk up into someone’s yard to retrieve a ball, don’t drive the cart up in the yard of a property owner. The thing that really pisses me off though is when a player hits a ball 30 yards up in my yard and then proceeds to take practice swings and try to hit a shot when they are clearly OB and they know their not on the course. If I see them, I will walk outside and tell them that if they choose to play their ball and their divot takes out a buried sprinkler head then they will be paying $200 to hat it repaired. At that point they generally act like they didn’t know they were out of bounds or something, but there are four OB markers along the property line.

Have fun, but just because you pay a green fee or cart fee does not entitle you to do whatever you want.

Played in a one day four man scramble last month and one of my partners smoked a window with his tee shot. Nobody was home and I was surprised an alarm didn't go off.

When I was in 6th(?) grade in the early 90s, was playing the 9-hole course in West Monroe - can't remember what it was called (Cypress?).

The 4th hole, I think, fronted North 7th. I hit a shot that hit a tree, ricocheted off it and came down and shattered the windshield of a car driving down the street.

The guy left his name and number at the clubhouse and I believe my mom used her homeowners to pay for it.

Actually you aren’t unless you intentionally hit it at his house.

The bunker on the right is 210 to the middle of the green.

I mean I hooked it pretty good but not that bad since the house isn’t very far from the fairway. I just looked at a birds eye view of course and it’s even closer than I remembered.

Santa Maria hole 12

If you zoom in you can see a white spec in one of the yards on the left. That’s the bird house that my ball ricocheted off of.
The owners told me they asked the course to move the tee boxes up but they said no.

I lived on a different golf course and I played Santa Maria years ago and one of the back nine holes maybe hole 13 I hit a hybrid off the tee box - trying to hit a draw - it went straight. Busted a window.
I stopped gave the lady my phone number and after the round I stopped and gave her a ck for the window pain.
Some people say you live on a golf course you know this risk, but I think the golfer should man up and pay for what they broke.
