Deciding between regular and stiff shaft

What factors other than swing speed come into play when choosing. Does launch angle have anything to do with it? I hit the ping g series irons today and my swing speed was on the border of flex and stiff. The guy at the store recommended the stiff and said I wouldn't have trouble getting them around, and that I hit the ball more than high enough. He also said the stiffer shaft could help with accuracy. Any advice?

How old are you?
I am asking, because if you are on the border and an older fellow, going with regular may be the better bet as your swing speed may slow down.

Also, stiff and regular aren’t the only options. Different shafts will have different results. I am a high ball hitter; the project X has made a huge difference for me.

30 years old.

The clubs I hit had the awt 2.0 stiffs.

13 handicap. Swing speed mid 80s with a 7 iron.

I have the swing speed and tempo that every chart and article says I should play an X Stiff.

But I got fitted and the best shaft for me is a Stiff tipped an inch. I would have never been put in that shaft without a fitting.

Point being: who fricking knows until you hit it and get feedback?

I would go regular flex.

I called Graphite Design and talked to their fitting expert. I gave him my numbers and I was also suppose to be an X flex going strictly on swing speed but he suggested their stiffest tipped shaft in a stiff. He told me it’s not about how hard you swing on the 2nd or 3rd hole but what you want the shaft to feel like late in the round when you need to hit a fairway. We settled on Tour AD GP6s. I absolutely love it. Only had one bad drive with it today.

Exactly. Something that was driven home to me by Buddha at Bebu golf studio where I was fitted. A good fitter shouldn’t focus on how hard you can swing it and your number based on that one metric.

I was looking at the Titleist AP1's and my swing speed was just at the lower end for stiff shaft. Best option for me at my age is the Regular+ shafts that fall in between reg and stiff. At 57 my swing speed will only go down over time not up.

I have a reg flex shaft in my 945D. It's helped a lot.

Stiffer shaft will likely produce a lower ball flight so if you are in between, that’s something else to consider

I have a stiff Tour AD DI 6. Thing is buttery and lightweight enough that I don’t get tired
