DeChambeau: 2 obstacles to returning to the PGA Tour

I don't think the other players will be a problem. Grown-ups will prevail, a pathway will be available. He'll have to pay his $50 to get out of jail instead of using his Get Out of Jail Free card, but there will be a pathway.
As far as his social media goes, I understand his concern, but he better not overvalue himself. His value as a social media host is his status as a Championship golfer. Go ask John Daly what it's like trying to promote yourself as an old washed up has been golfer. It's not the life DeChambeau wants for himself as a podcaster. If he is not playing golf and competing in majors regularly, his viewership weill steadily decline.

Bryson seems to have pivoted pretty hard from “I’m here to figure it out with LIV, let’s make it work” to talking in pretty decent detail about how he would get back on tour and why he should be allowed to.
It would be interesting to see what long term bumps he would give tv viewership and fan attendance if he did come back in some capacity. His YouTube fans don’t seem to be tuning into LIV events in any significant way. Maybe he does drive a lot of the in person attendance. But would he on the tour, especially after the initial interest in his return?

How many people go out to watch Grant and the good good guys which also have “millions of followers”?
YouTube doesn’t translate to real life . It’s a separate entity and wisely the PGA tour treats it as such

People are asking him these hypotheticals & that’s how he is answering the question. If LIV has events in 2027, I believe Bryson will be there
ETA: found the video of the full interview if you want the full context….
His full leading question: “Bryson, how would it look for you on the competitive landscape as a competitive golfer IF LIV were to go away?”

Glad he's leaving his ego at the door...

If their new YGT announces a date for Purcell Farms and that attendance will be permitted people will show up.
Not as many as a PGA event, but more than you’d probably think.

The allure of YouTube golf is getting the sense that you’re basically a caddy for the player. You get to know what they’re thinking, why they’re hitting what they’re hitting, their reaction. You get a perfect view of every lie and every shot tracer and where every shot ends up.
You go watch Bryson in person at a 50,000 person event and you’ll be lucky to have 5-6 shots where you have a really good view. Definitely won’t have him narrating everything.
Not knocking YouTube golf, there’s a reason it’s popular. But it just doesn’t really translate to going to an event in person or even a normal tourney broadcast.

When are you going to let this idea go? It’s over.

It's becoming difficult to put into words how unlikeable this guy has become and he wasn't exactly the most charming character to begin with.
Hope he's DFL at the PGA and continues to be a worse bunker player than me.

it's honestly fascinating, Bryson went from the biggest eye roll player on Tour before he went to LIV, to completely rehabbing his image a couple years ago, and now back to being where he started. IMO he was always the same eye roll guy, he just benefitted in the short-term from being the only pro golfer for awhile who was active in the youtube space.

He was definitely, maybe the only guy whose move to LIV actually helped his image. He was generating legit roars and taking down Rory at Pinehurst.
But as he's come back into the spotlight with his current stance, he's vaporizing that shite and will end up being the biggest or second biggest loser in the whole deal behind Rahm.

I’m just trying to help is all. Quicker you let it go, the quicker you can begin to heal.

This and being able to edit YouTube videos before release to make him look like he’s not an insufferable cheese dick

the more Bryson videos you watch, the more you realize he hasn't done a great job of this. He comes off as a huge cheese dick in all of them. He has the social maturity of a high schooler and is the ultimate golf douchebag.

That's actually 95% of content creators on You Tube.
But your point is spot on. He can douche it up as long as he is winning major championships. But if that goes away, let's just say he's not the kind of guy to make a post playing career of driving his RV to the Augusta Hooters and holding court.

He is certainly aloof but his content is mostly great, it’s easy to watch with my boys, they enjoy it and it makes the more interested in golf. There aren’t many hour long YouTube videos I can watch with them that we are all actually paying attention to the entire time.
The hate he gets is very unwarranted imo, he seems like a generally good dude just trying to carve out a niche and grow the game. He also when the rubber hits the road seems to care about the fans and is typically approachable.
