What’s the problem with BREC? I understand that the majority of the courses lose money. But that doesn’t factor in our property taxes offsetting this. Why must we settle with subpar conditions year in and year out? Shouldn’t at least Webb, Santa Maria, & Beaver Creek be in acceptable shape??

— Santa Maria does stay in good condition mostly. But the range is terrible and the bunkers have been awful for YEARS!

— Beaver Creek is a good layout, but hasn’t been in all around good shape in a long time. I know the greens are terrible now, but they have been subpar for the last 3 or 4 years.

— Webb park is in embarrassing condition. What is the problem? Is it lack of money (it shouldn’t be) or lack of knowledge? Webb could be a gem right in the middle of Baton Rouge.

Someone should be held accountable for the conditions. We pay BREC too much as a whole to accept what they provide.

The wrong people are running Webb is the only thing I can come up with. It's really basic design but would be a lot more fun to play if it wasn't in shitty condition 24/7 365.

Santa Maria is by far the best BREC course right now. Seems like they put beach sand in the bunkers to get rid of the maintenance hassle. One of the only greens in and around BR that survived winter. Fairways in above average shape by LA standards. It's held its own pretty well with the amount of traffic it gets.

Just make the drive to Carter Plantation. You won’t be disappointed.

I agree that Carter is excellent. But why should someone who lives in the middle of Baton Rouge have to travel 45 minutes? Webb Park is in the middle of our city and is deplorable. What is the reasoning for the condition of the greens. And this is not exclusive to this year. The course is not overplayed and BREC has the money to put into the course. Use a portion of our property taxes to do what is needed. And if it’s knowledge, get the right people in position to bring it to where it should be.

Sorry LSUTiger23...this rant wasn’t completely directed at you. I do enjoy Carter plantation.

Beaver was in fantastic shape last year. This year it’s obviously terrible

The only time BREC gives a shite about course conditions is when they have a tournament. Other than that they do the bare minimum maintenance and they know that people will still play there.

No they don't. They lose too much money at Dumas, Clark and Beaver and Administration costs to invest in Webb.

We are in really bad shape in BR area if Beaver is a good layout.

They don’t have to break even at any of the courses based on their day to day revenue. OUR property taxes offset BRECs cost. They have no problem using that money to maintain the BREC parks across the parish that bring in NO money. They need to allocate more to the golf courses that actually bring in real money.

Anyone know how much surplus BREC has on hand?

I believe Santa Maria and Beaver Creek have been in good condition consistently (outside of this year for BC obviously). i completely agree that Webb and the other BREC courses are embarrassingly bad. imo it’s because the management staff and maintenance workers know there is no chance to lose their job even if they are in bad shape so there’s no accountability.

Beaver Creek has been in great shape for the last 2-3 years. Santa Maria has the best greens in a 50 mile radius right now. Webb fairways and rest of the course are really good. There are a few greens at Webb that are kinda jacked up right now but so are everybody elses'

They don't have the best greens in a five mile radius.

if you work for BREC and think this then we have found the problem.

its absurd that Webb is as pitiful as it is.

It borders one of the most expensive areas in the city to live and should be a nice course with a bar, nice little pro shop, and in good shape.

Webb is a dump but it should be great and its a tragedy because the layout really isnt that bad and the location is primo.

That has always been my problem with both Webb and City Park. Not only do they lose a bunch of money but the return on investment is even worse. They are both on very expensive prime real estate. The product should be far better.

So, we have to pretend like better greens don't exist so we can call BREC primo?
