I have a high school junior that has been playing more and more lately. He has been using my clubs which are nothing special.

Where is the best place to buy him a used set of decent irons?

Why not? A lot of the golf club sellers on eBay are just local golf shops using it as their little slice of e-commerce. I wouldn’t buy clubs from some dude with like 12 sales and crappy descriptions, but there’s plenty of sellers with thousands of transactions and 99.5+% ratings. I’ll buy from them all day long.

Ton of fake Chinese crap. I wouldn't risk it but that's just me. Last time I got bit was for fake Golf Pride grips.

I used Global Golf couple times with no issues. Big selection and fast shipping. Calloway probably has the best as far as condition but not as much selection. Both worth checking out. Ebay can be useful to fill in missing pieces of a set or single clubs

eBay is the answer

It’s addicting. Like gambling.

I'll personally never buy another set on eBay. Bought a brand new set of irons one time from a golf club dealer on there with 1,000's of sales. It wasn't even some half off price, they were just some irons I couldn't find locally.

Irons were super inconsistent. I'd hit two smooth 7 irons in a row and one would go 170 and the next would fall flat at 155. It was like that with all the irons. This was about 10 years ago and I really didn't know there was a huge counterfeit/knockoff golf club market. Looked into it some more and found out they were 100% fake.

That was enough for me to never buy any off there again. I still use eBay quite a bit, just not for golf clubs.

Callaway pre-owned is really nice. I've bought a handful of clubs from them and every one of them have been in a better condition than advertised. And you don't have to question their authenticity.
