Their handicap will be based on the rounds they play with others. That’s when the handicap is necessary anyway, right? To create an “even” playing field for bets and competition with net scoring. How well you play with pressure and/or competition is how good you actually are. How you play solo with nothing on the line, even if it’s simply trying to play well as other watch, means very little.

I post my solo rounds. I have small kids so if I’m out of town for work, I always try to play and will post those scores. Probably 25% of my posted rounds are solo.

But I also always strictly play by the rules, so I don’t really care if I’m not supposed to post those. My scores don’t change solo vs. competition.

Technically, you aren't supposed to post it. I play a decent bit by myself, so it sucks. I'd like to be able to post those scores, and to be honest, I have on occasion. I wish it was allowed. It has to do with having someone make sure you aren't cheating, I beleive.

I don’t think this is true anymore. With technology advancements and apps all over, I thought I read that the USGA accepts solo rounds that are legit

There has to be a marker. Someone watching. They did not change this rule last January.

Scores not acceptable. Scores made while playing alone are not acceptable, but a score played by oneself that is observed by a marker, for example, is. The USGA does not permit the posting of solo-round scores because of the lack of peer review in such cases.

GHIN
The Grint is a nice app with GPS, handicap and more. (handicap is now a minimal yearly fee).

Obviously the reason for this is to cut down on people lying about their scores. It’s just interesting to me because golf is a sport that prides itself on honesty and moral character but they don’t trust people to record honest scores

FWIW I have an official USGA GHIN and I post my scores on the app alone all the time and it doesn’t ask for a marker or if I was alone

You expect it to ask that every time?

It’s golf. You’re expected to know and follow the rules.

Meh I’ll keep doing it when I’m playing alone and following all the rules. I don’t record it if I’m playing multiple balls or out there having to play super fast and taking gimmes and what not.

Hell I’m currently a 7.2 index and I posted a 92 the other day, so the app should know I’m being honest

It doesn’t hurt my feelings man. I’m just sharing the rules. Golf is a game of honesty. When I’m playing with someone and they ask for a ruling or help like where they should drop, I tell them wherever they think is right is good with me. They know about two club lengths from where it entered. Even if someone yells across the fairway saying they’re taking a free drop from water, I don’t need to see it. If you or Johnny Lawrence want to post solo rounds, more power to you. It’s your hdcp and your game. And if it’s lower than what it should be, fine too. Way better than “forgetting” to post the good scores because you need a higher cap for your member guest coming up in 3 weeks.

Do yall post to the GHIN when you play a round by yourself and you follow all rules?

I post everything.

I play with a partner 98% of the time, but I post even a stray 9 hole round after work.

Pretty rare for me not to have anybody to play with so I don’t worry about it.

Last time I had an official handicap I was walking 9 or 18 after work and would post them. I have no reason to want my handicap lower than it should be, I was just being honest with them.

I use the handicap more as a metric of how I'm playing, as opposed to a function for gambling.
