Nonsense. They couldn't make money with that and the problems with crime, litter and security would be immense. I's a golf course--9 holes. It has been that way for a century. Why do some people want to do away with it?

Im not saying do away with it. Saying light it up as is

I had a blast with friends on houston on a walking only lighted course with beer girl and great food.

I dont play city park now. I would if they did that.

Calling for lights, bars, food trucks, or a “destination” sounds fun until you look at the realities on the ground. BREC can barely maintain the system it already has. Crime, litter, staffing shortages, and security challenges are real. Turning City Park into a nightlife adjacent entertainment venue wouldn’t solve any of that — it would magnify it.
And the idea that you can bolt a Topgolf lite concept onto a 100 year old, walkable, tree canopied 9 hole course and somehow “top 50,000 rounds” is fantasy. The course works because it is simple, affordable, historic, and predictable. That’s why 28,200 rounds happened last year. That’s why it’s the most diverse and accessible golf facility in the parish. That’s why kids, seniors, beginners, students, and everyday players use it constantly.

And BTW, making the course three holes, pitch and putt is the same as doing away with it.

I dont agree with making it a 3 hole pitch and putt. Thats a terrible idea.

But in a world of compromise, you can stroke the ego of your opposition by keeping the course and adopting their ideas of bar/food/ lights etc.

Change is coming. You can be there to influence it in a way you can win... or you can get pissed at the outcomes; change is inevitable

We (BREC golfers) can't compromise. We (BREC golfers) pay more per person to use a BREC facility than anyone using any other BREC facility. We are down to 5 public courses -- with 36 holes closed (Dumas and Howell) in the last 10 years.

Keeping City Park's 9 holes intact is what tax millage paying/green fee paying EBR citizens should demand.

The pitch & putt concept is the bone they're trying to throw us so we'll shut up. And then they can slide the amphitheater concept in so the "wine & cheese" crowd can visit occasionally and enjoy their complimentary front row tickets with the politically connected commissioners.

And as for lighted night golf -- when? Dec. to Feb. too cold. May to Sept....the mosquitoes will keep users away.

If you want lighted, night golf go to TopGolf. After about 2 visits, you'll have had enough.

Ive never said I support a pitch and putt. I think its a terrible idea

You just cant seem to understand there is an alternative where you keep the 9 holes and expand its use, attractiveness, and functionality.

Lighted courses are very popular and loads of fun. Top golf is not, lighted course golf.

And there is plenty time to play lighted golf in fall and late winter. You act like we dont have 60 degree nights in November and December here

And to add to the strain on the remaining public courses should City Park close, the LSU course is closing May 9th.

Where will those 44K combined City Park-LSU rounds go?

We played some fun lighted par 3 in Pensacola area late 80s. It was fun and had good greens. No idea if it’s still there.

Chances that they would do something worthwhile here with this Sasaki group running the show are close to zero.

Emailed the commissioners about the pedestrian loop that Sasaki is proposing that runs directly behind and next to fairways and greens, which is obviously impractical and dangerous. A perfectly good buffer already exists with the mature oak trees on the edges of the park to complete a dedicated walking/running/biking loop on E. Lakeshore, as people (myself included) already use E. Lakeshore as a pedestrian route extensively. Leads me to believe that Sasaki is incredibly naive about golf and City Park specifically.

No reply back after a day and a half as of yet.

The walking path at Audubon Park in NOLA can get somewhat close to the course at times. Haven’t had any issue there.

I just ran that Audubon path a couple weeks ago and it's much further away from the course at all points and also buffered by mature oaks, in comparison to what this graphic shows.

The Sasaki plans actually even use the cart path directly next to the hole and behind the green as part of the pedestrian walking/running/biking path, and vice versa.

Can we get a consolidated thread? All the city park and brec complaining in one single thread. Even add the LSU closing. It's like 4-5 threads on essentially the same topic.

I'm cool with the topic and I'm enjoying the discourse. Just one thread would make it easier to follow.

this bitch can't run on the sidewalk or go run at one of the many school tracks in her area? She could run around the entirety of the LSU lakes. Whats with the hardon for a "running track"?
