Are more deals really made on the golf course?

I've always heard jokes about how you need to get good at golf because "more deals are made on the course than in the office."

Has anyone benefited professionally/financially from joining a country club?

I've got a buddy that doesn't even golf but joined our local club under a "social membership" for networking. I'm wondering if the benefit justifies the amount in dues.

that depends on the clientele of said club. If could work out great or could backfire.

you get to know people if your playing golf for 3 hours, if your cool might work out for you, if you suck they might hate you and no deal.

Joining up with other groups or joining a country club is just a great way to meet people and the more people you know, the better chance of benefiting professionally. I got a job once from someone I met on the course

I've certainly benefited professionally from playing golf. You get to know a lot about a person while playing golf, like if you want to do business with them.

You usually make the deals after the round unless you are walking. Walking provides ample opportunity to talk business.

That's because none of us are interested in purchasing a single wide.

not trolling... deals aren't made walking on the golf course, you got to ride and talk.

You know there are people here who can tell you have no fricking clue what you are talking about with every single post you make, right? Again, stop.

Walking golf is real golf. They walk on the Tour for a reason.

If professional golfers were allowed to ride around, drink beer, and smoke the reefer, while they played golf, it wouldn't really be golf anymore.

It'd basically be........bowling.

I knew a lot of the people at mine well before I was practicing. But I've made multiples of my dues by hanging around the club and playing acquiring new lines of business.

My membership has paid for itself tenfold. Being a solid golfer/tennis player is a useful skill in the business world in my experience.

My cousin does PI in New Orleans and says the same of the relationship he has with his lawn guy.
Steady stream of income from all that guy’s friends.

By the way, do you ever just think to yourself, “This nerd can kiss my arse. I’m just gonna torch his world, possibly beat his arse in the parking lot in front of his wife and kids, and flick a cig in his face as we walk off the green on 18,” while he hands you four fresh, pressed, and starched hundrit dolla bills?

I've found that it isn't so much deals being made, but client development and keeping your current clients. A lot of people take their clients out for golf and drinks just to keep them happy and it helps to be decent at golf.

I've also been hired at a job before because I could play golf. When you aren't the most qualified or it's a toss up, being a good golfer for scramble purposes can separate you from the pack.
