Anyone use a golf watch (Garmin s60)?

I’m looking at purchasing a golf watch to wear on the course. I’ve been using a laser rangefinder but find it inconvenient and a bit clunky. I know apps are available for an iPhone but I put my phone in my bag the minute I arrive and don’t retrieve it until I’m leaving. I like to enjoy my time on the course without the distraction of a phone.
TLDR - if you wear a golf watch which model did you purchase and why?

I've used phone app before and prefer laser. I found that with the gps approach, I found myself getting lazy and settling for being within "10 to 15 yards" due to the big greens we have down here. Confidence also suffered a little.
Exact distances are money for your approach game. Takes the guess work out and boosts confidence. I've considered a gps for longer than 170 yards though.

I could see where a combination of both would be excellent. I just hate carrying the laser in my pocket while I’m playing or when I’m headed to a shot across the fairway sans cart.

Easiest thing to do is download an app for your phone for a few rounds and see if you like it. Having gone from GPS to laser, I'll gladly lug a laser pretty much anywhere for the confidence of knowing where exactly where everything is in front of me.

Garmin Fenix 6. I bought it for much more that just golf though it does an excellent job on the course. Can keep score and track some basic stats because it knows when/where I hit each time. Changed the way I play. Use to rely on laser and exact yardage way too much. I'm not close to being that consistent...or accurate. lol
Nice to get a view of the entire hole from the tee box. Now on approaches I get front-middle-back and that made it easier on me to make a relaxed swing.

I use The Grint on iWatch. It's awesome and I'm pretty sure there's going to be an update that has advanced analytics on swing speed and what not. The issue with the watch arises on approach shots like these other guys are saying. The precision to know the distance to the pin is invaluable. The watch only gives you 3 measures: front, middle and back. So it's guess work on approach shots.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I’m gathering that a laser-achieved yardage is going to be much more precise when compared to gps/smart watch?

quote:Depends on the green complex and where you are in relation to it. Also are you talking about accounting for elevation? My Leupold GX-5i does and that is when I will pull it out of my bag. For flat land golf on a basic green...my experience when using both, only a few yards, not more than 5 off my guess using watch info. Same for my buddies who all have golf watches now too. IMO, it has sped up our pace of play as a group.

I have the Garmin S60. I use it all the time and love it. If I need to know how far a bunker is or to the front, middle, or back of a green, it's perfect. I use it a lot when I play casual rounds or rounds with my kid. I don't need the laser to get the right number when my 3 year old is yelling in my backswing. I just need to have an idea of what club to grab.
If I'm playing in a tournament or an important round, I use the rangefinder and watch together. But knowing the actual distance is really important when I'm actually keeping score.

A friend won a Garmin approach s12.
He likes a laser so he gave it to me since I had paid his teams entry fee as a sponsor.
. I was using a bushnell phantom which is handheld or will magnetize to bag, pushcart or cart.

Just not sure I could wear a watch during a round? I take off my watch & wedding ring when I get to course. I see guys wear them all the time but not sure I could get used to it?

That’s another concern I have. I also don’t play wearing a watch. Sounds like there won’t be a perfect solution either way.

You will get use to the watch. Had the same concern. Few range sessions and I was perfectly comfortable with it on.

I have the Garmin S20. I purchased it a few years back because there was a closeout on it. I got it for a lot less than the S60. It does everything I need, and then some. It is also an exercise watch which works good for my cycling, but it will do much more than golf and cycling. It has a monochrome display. I put a divers watch velcro band on it and it is quite comfortable to wear, not to mention this type of band keeps the watch very secure during the swing.

Consider the Bushnell Phantom.

Actually looking at grabbing a first gen model on eBay. It’s pocket-sized.
