Jones took a giant dump with his tens of millions at city park. Not a single remarkable hole there.

Agree. I was so disappointed when it was announced that he got the commission. Of course, Houston did the right thing and hired Tom Doak to redo Memorial Park.

I've heard some news that MCC might be re'doing the redo. Think the US Women's Open at CC of Charleston got their hopes up. A Seth Raynor course on a flat piece of property, sounds like MCC. My complaint with the reno they did back in '03 is that they jacked all the greens way up, so if you miss you're basically left with a flop or sand shot from way below the green surface. No run off areas, and if the ball lands short it just plugs in the bank. It'll be interesting to see who they choose to do it (if they do it), and what changes they make.

And Bayou Oaks is fine, but for that amount of money fine is a huge letdown. Greens are boring as frick, no character to the course. Rees Jones, terrible choice.

That is actually what makes it a good golf course, IMO. It's very generous off the tee and not long at all. However, with the elevated greens and deep slopes off the back, you better be on point with your approach shots. Other than that, the course has no defense.

He started there as Director of Golf in 2008, I believe.

He was there as an assistant pro back in the 90s. Sounds like he left and came back at some point. Good for him.

The problem for MCC is the course is on a limited amount of land. They did all they could with limited acreage. Fun to play, in good shape but not even as good as NOCC. My current favorite designer is Crenshaw and Coore. They did Brandon Dunes and Streamsong.

He went to U club and then Sherwood Forest. I worked for him at the U Club during college.

You say that like it's something to be ashamed of. New Orleans Country Club is one of the top club in the South.

1 don’t go right or be aggressive with the bunker or trees right. More space left than can notice
2 don’t go right and lay up to 120
3 play to the front of the green, usually skips forward easy chip from there or you’re putting
4 take driver over the right side of the left fr bunker.
5 there is a pond right at 150, left isn’t bad
6 don’t have to hit driver
7 again center front of the green
8 more space right than can see
9 go for it always
10 hit it 225-235
11 try to hit a hard cut at the fairway bunker
12 center of the green
13 hit it 225-235
14 go for it
15 more space right than can see, def miss the bunker
16 hit it right down the right cut line of the fr
17 there is a bowl in the front of the green, hit it to the correct level
18 240 off the tee, if going for it keep it right of the green.

If you play to the center of every green you will have no more than 30 foot on every putt. The complex’s have a bit of movement but nothing terrible.

My list of top clubs in the South would be

Augusta
Alotian
Country Club of Birmingham
Peachtree
Shoal Creek
Golf Club of Tennessee
East Lake
Country Club of Charleston

And then I have a tough time putting any other club surely in front of NOCC.
