How is the upkeep? Would be a shame if they let a Seth Raynor course go to shite.

ETA: looking up info, must be a big time baller course to belong. Has to be the best designed course in Louisiana?

Only golden age architecture course in Louisiana, minus some Tom Bendelow stuff, which doesn't really count, that I'm aware of. But I think MCC changed a lot with Katrina, so it isn't as true of a Raynor as it once was (but I've never played it and am hearing all of this second hand).

I'd argue there are a couple other courses that were well designed by Nicklaus/Palmer, etc.

So, are you saying Raynor was a shitty golf architect? Bold statement.

It's not bad although I never played it before the storm. There are still a lot of classic Rayor parts to this golf course. Redan, punch bowl, etc can all be had. I actually see a lot more Raynor in it than most people. The only tough thing is you just don't have the rolling hills or mountains in South Louisiana. It's a really good design and underrated course when in good shape.

I can't speak to post Katrina, but MCC is definitely not the best designed course in Louisiana.

There’s courses in the state designed by Rees Jones, Fazio, Nicklaus and Palmer. It’s not a knock to say it’s far from the best design in Louisiana.

Golden age tools incoming. According to some of the nerds around here if you were born after 1900, then you're not worthy of designing golf courses

Not a golden age tool but that age of architecture is infinitely more interesting. That's why the new era of architects (Doak, King Collins, Hanse, etc) are using ideas from the days of old. They just aren't saying they are template holes.

If I had a choice of Fazio, Jones, Nicklaus or CB McDonald, Raynor, McKenzie I'm choosing the golden age guys every time.

I got to play MCC a couple of years ago, post Katrina. The green sites and bunkering are full of Classic Raynor and are really good. Fun and Interesting. The Punchbowl is my favorite green in Louisiana. I wish they’d bring in Gil Hanse to restore and put some shaping to the fairways. It COULD be the best designed course in Louisiana if they kept the Raynor Greens and bunker strategy, and put more Raynor into the fairways. I got a huge kick out of playing all the template holes, but if you don’t know the history, I can understand why you’d be underwhelmed.

I don’t get people who play golf, but don’t get into the history or the game and the architecture. That’s the best part about it in my mind.

I've been on a recent architecture kick. The sample size of golden age courses you can play are small and very few of them are close to here. Which is really depressing if that interests you.

While not Golden Age, Nicklaus did a really good job at CCL and Palmer did a wonderful job at The Bluffs. Haven't played Squire or Bayou Oaks, yet, so I can't comment on those. And Jones' work at Santa Maria probably isn't his best work. It isn't shocking that the better designed courses in the state are at sites that are undulating.
