His club touched the sand. What am I missing? I have him on my team.

He didn't ground the club and it didn't look like the contact was intentional. It was only able to be detected on a zoomed in slow mo camera

Lucky he wasn't DQ, that's Patrick Reed level shite

Only noticeable with zoomed in video. Clearly doesn’t create an advantage which I think couple with being unintentional, this penalty sucks.

None of that matters. Rules are rules. Remember Johnson at whistling straits.

I thought the rule was it had to be noticeable by the naked eye.

Grounding a club in a bunker (not waste) is a penalty. Knowingly doing it makes you a cheater, not knowing is still a penalty. I hate these video rulings. It is a game of honor and the players should be left to police themselves.

I mean, what dude caught that and called it in?
Posted on 4/8/21 at 7:51 pm to ell_13
What a BS penalty. They must have cameras recording every players shots. I had to watch it three times before I thought the sand MIGHT have moved.

Oh, it’s bullshite but it is the rules.
Posted on 4/8/21 at 7:56 pm to TDTOM
I know it's in the rules. Had it not been for the video the penalty would never have been called imo.

Does anybody know the system they have in place for this? Do they have rules officials go back and watch slow Mo videos of all of these guys shots? They no longer except fan call ins for penalties right?
So for something like this that was so unintentional and hard to see, if some busybody fan had watched it in slow mo and called it in the PGA probably wouldn’t have penalized it. But since their own guys caught it on slow mo video they are penalizing it, am I getting this right?

Agreed. This same shite cost DJ a major.

DJ thought he was in a waste area, Ancer improved his lie and got caught.
Posted on 4/8/21 at 9:14 pm to Strannix
He didn’t improve shite. It was an innocent mistake.

You clearly see that the small mound of sand behind the ball was smoothed and flat after the club was grounded. I’m sure it wasn’t intentional but the rules are the rules.

Why is grounding the ball in a bunker a penalty?
