Oh lord another clueless guy.

When did you start playing? I’m going to guess like the moron you have absolutely no clue how the game was played then, because you didn’t play it.

Guys who hit it 300 were everywhere. You couldn’t play an invitational tournament without seeing a dozen of them you didn’t know, much less guys you knew. The Amateur, the Mid-Amateur were full of them. Played in both.

Most guys never bothered trying to compete in long drive. It was all expense and no reward other than a title. The few guys I knew, including me who did try it figured that out pretty fast. Not sure when it turned into a real thing, but has been pretty recent.

What year are you talking about? You’re jumping all over the place. First you were talking about balata ball days then you randomly jumped to 2005.

You came here for a little guidance and it turned into 6 pages of back n forth diatribes.. Congrats apparently the distance question is the secret sauce to long threads..

Senior events nowadays - smooth 5.

Mid Am days - smooth 6

College - hard 7 / smooth six

Mizzuno but each set has been more user friendly.

I am about to move to more hybrids and woods as I have been getting beaten up in the senior am events pretty good lately.

Knowing that I used to crush it 350+ at least once a round back in 2005; these stats are so satisfying to read. Making me feel like uncle Rico here

Speaking of cock measuring I hit a tasty 198 yard mile high draw with my 7i at the range this afternoon.

35 years ago, my lowest rounds in tournaments would have my off the tee drive maybe at 260 - maybe.

The game left me when the younger guys started bombing the drive and flip wedging in for the putt.

The only good thing is that my back and body absorbed little wear.

Today, I get my arse kicked on the regular because of my lack of distance.

My long drive of the year on Toptracer was 316 on an 80-85 degree day

This shot was hit considerably better, but it happened in 48 degree weather lol.

Note that, 168 ball speed, with over a 100 foot apex, w minimal draw side spin, only carried 272 and rolled out to 298.

I think the 162 ball speed, carrying 292 is definitely a bit of an anomaly. High Elevation or wind behind you is really the only thing that can produce those yardages at a 162 ball speed.

As much as I have been loving some toptracer at bayou oaks, I've realized that the rollout calculation is completely bs or otherwise not calibrated correctly.

I was hitting 120 ft apex wedges that I could visually see dropping and stopping but toptracer was giving me like 8+ yards of rollout on a perfectly struck SW.

Yesterday toptracer was trying to tell me I was getting 50 yards of rollout on some of my drives I really stepped into one and got a 282 carry on 167 ball speed, but then top tracer claimed it went another 51 yards for a total of 333 lmao.

Used to be me. My back paid the price.

Thats my swing these days. Slow coming back, smooth going through. Really helps how I feel after a round now.

I would if I tried to play the tips. Age/handicap appropriate tees. The guys I play with weekly use a 5-iron multiplier to determine what tees to play from. Most of us are in our 60’s and 70’s, couple in their 80’s. Never asked where they got it from but it seems to work out pretty well.

This is the way.

Too many people think they have to play “the men’s tee.”

I watch golfers struggle when they can’t carry it 200 yards. It does not look fun to me.

Of course I play with golfers from 6 to 92 so we play all sorts of tees. Golf is supposed to be a game. Games are fun.

Me playing 7000 yards? No thank you.

I can still slam it, and 7000 yards is generally my cut off for fun. Over 7K, and it starts to become work. I don't mind doing it with friends when were out for a little pain and a test, but on a regular basis, I would rather play under 7K.

I drop by Edwin watts and check out the 430 5 hybrid. If they ever get one with a stiff shaft I will buy it.
