I've seen that tweet. It's not accurate. Microsoft applied for something like 3,700 H-1B visas across the company, not just XBOX.

The announced layoffs don't just affect US companies so the claim that they're laying off "3,200 Americans" is also false.

I agree with the overall spirit about H-1B visas and am excited about the Trump admin investigating H-1B visa fraud, but that tweet is just completely false in its claims. Putting out obviously false stuff only hurts the argument.

I think for that sort of thing they're going to need to lock in subscriptions for longer instead of "cancel whenever you want." Maybe that's a change they're looking into.

Underlying Game Pass’s problem was a central flaw, according to the people. While consumers might be willing to pay a monthly fee to Netflix Inc. to stream thousands of TV shows and movies, most gamers don’t take the same approach, preferring to stick with a handful of favorite games they play on repeat. Research from Circana shows that the majority of US gamers buy two games at most per year and a third of the market doesn’t even purchase one.

This is probably the first clear articulation of why game streaming is not the same as video streaming. People simply don't play as many different games as they watch different TV shows and movies.

so Game Pass will turn into service contracts like gym memberships or a cell phone services.

i don't know if people enjoy gaming that much.

they might, but i was one of those that had a free month of Game Pass and used it to play the BLOPS 6 campaign. cancelled it when i was done.

Well, a game like Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 takes literally months to playthrough. I'm not gonna give up the precious hours I have to actually play by putting whatever hijinks I'm up to with Henry on pause to go download and start something new.

Thanks for clarifying

There should be a law that says any company thas mass layoffs of Americans can not file for H1B for 5 years, and if they had filed for up to 5 years prior, those H1Bs are the first out the door before any American

Completely agree with this. It's a real problem that needs to be fixed.

I'd prefer we totally end the H-1B program. Especially now that all those people have to do is get knocked up and have a kid and then we're stuck with them for life.

Tis was a great move for Xbox, they had a lot of studios, who were working 8 years on games and they were garbage. Absolute shitting money away.

Doom and ID cuts hurt, but ID will become a helper studio, to help others finish the big stuff.

zero reason to be making more shite games, stick to the games that make you money, not this bullshite.

Fallout
TES
etc

Supposedly Xbox cracked the whip at bethesda, and said enough of this 20 people ladders for stuff, you have 2-3 people as heads and rest are workers. YOu have an idea, it goes to 2-3 people, not 17 chains of commands, like they had. Former bethesda peeps claimed it was a joke, it could take a month to get your stuff to some one who could actually do something, and it's 2 late. etc

Game Pass is a great deal for consumers but it was never a sustainable model as is. Look for more changes and prices increases to come. I could easily see $20 per month for basic service coming within a year.

id Software doesn't appear to be concerned about the layoffs crippling them, as was rumored.

Sounds like id software got heavily gutted during this round of layoffs.

As a huge fan of Doom this concerns me.

if you asked 100 people if you liked doom 2016 doom eternal and doom dark ages it'd prob be 40 40 20. dark ages was not great, but the dlc looks good to be fair

So
Was disappointed in the dark ages.
Then I got the DLC and now gameplay wise, it’s the funnest doom ever made. It’s fricking bad arse.
