Someone finally had the balls to go to all of these studios who had clearly been taking advantage of nice guy Phil and basically told Todd Howard to put the fries in the bag like a good employee and make us some money

I think a good bit of that was straight up mismanagement of these studios they purchased. When they announced that Starfield was going to be console exclusive to the Xbox, a lot of people within Bethesda hated the decision, Pete Hines more notably.
Bethesda operates on their own timeline, but with the current gaming market, layoffs being rampant, I can appreciate lighting a fire to get things going, as long as the game doesn't suffer.
I didn't read it all, but there was an interview with one of the New Vegas devs, saying he felt BGS not releasing ANYTHING Fallout related during the Fallout TV show lifespan seemed like it was a personal decision, not just a market mistake........whatever that might mean.

I remember that far more often than not DCUO doing the same not-doing-anything thing when the various DC movies and shows came out. Aside from the BvS movie posters being ingame as base furniture and a Supergirl tv show skin (which was subsequently pulled) for Legends characters, they routinely did nothing but maybe mention the show/movie in their social media.
Meanwhile, Gazillion was pimping everything the MCU was doing in Marvel Heroes along with comic book events.

On a reddit post, former Bethesda artist and writer Michael Kirkbride confirmed "Sentinel" as the name. I would assume he would have some inside knowledge on this.
