Just started the game back yesterday. I played it about 12 years ago but never made it past 40. But I see classic is coming out in a month. Should I wait and play that? Anyone is a fun guild? I’m up to level 24 today. Seems a lot faster leveling now.

Anyway... does anyone still play this?

I need to look up when character creation opens and get my sub rdy for classic. Trust me leveling will be a lot harder in classic.

I'd love if someone made an SEC guild for classic. Just so we could hang out and talk trash during football season.

The current WoW might be a pretty big grind to catch up to everyone. I'm mostly waiting until classic comes out like most people on here.

The grind is the part that I love.

I believe it was last year that they implemented level scaling on zones, so while you do level much quicker than in classic it's a bit slower than it was before the level scaling. However, you don't outlevel zones anymore, so you can feel safe completing a whole zone instead of having to jump to the next zone after one quest hub because all the rest of the quests in the zone turned green.

I don't play anymore, but before I quite I was having more fun leveling in the early zones than the later zones.

This is correct.

Leveling isn't really that hard or truly time consuming in current wow for your first run through. For players that have done it 10+ times, the level scaling has made it more of a chore to grind out an alt. They made it feel closer to the classic feel early on. It's still fairly easy though.

With any effort you could have a max character within a week of casual play probably.

If it were me giving advice to someone wanting to get into WoW, I say wait for classic. You won't feel overwhelmingly behind because everyone is starting fresh and leveling is more rewarding. The current wow patch is pretty good though, so if you want something to do until classic comes out 8/27, go for it and level a character.

Leveling will be vastly different in classic though, so be prepared.

It's still fast as hell if you slap on a full set of heirloom gear and grind dungeons.

Then BFA isn't for you. If you fall behind there will be a new catchup mechanic every 2 months. If you want the grind, just wait for Classic on August 27th.

Also leveling is way faster because they completely slashed the exp needed to reach max level by nearly half not too long ago. 8.1 I believe it was.

quote:

First and foremost, the experience required to level from 20 to 120 has been reduced considerably in 8.1. While the Battle for Azeroth range is being reduced by only a very small amount, the experience required for previous expansions is going down by 10-40% for each level, which will dramatically increase the speed of leveling through older content.

quote:

Classic: -5% to -40% per level
Burning Crusade/Wrath of the Lich King: -26% to -40% per level
Cataclysm/Mists of Pandaria: -25% per level
Warlords of Draenor: -25% per level
Legion: -25% per level
Battle for Azeroth: -0.03% to -0.05% per level

Westfall and Deadmines kicked my arse in original WoW. The game was really challenging back then. I look forward to another run through and a warlock that has bite to his bark again.

I am curious to see if they will be to recreate the single most dangerous zone in the original WoW.

Yes.

Ironforge.

You would hit a lag spike and watch helplessly as your character cheerfully jogged off to their fiery doom (no safey nets back then). And the lava would be littered with the dead bodies of other players.

Making it out of Ironforge without dying was a major accomplishment back in the day. No dungeon can recreate the challenge of not getting roasted.

I started playing again after about 10 years away...

Quit during lich king. Restarted my acct with my 3 level 80s. Got my main character up to 95 now. It's pretty weird skimming the expansions I have never played for, for about a zone or two before it's time to move on. I dont really have much of a clue of what these expansions are and you rush around and do dungeons that really dont mean anything anymore. Takes a little out of it.

I used to be a main tank in a high end raid guild. At this point all Im doing is playing catch up. It's still pretty fun though. Im in Draenor now. Blizzard had implemented some interesting gameplay. Building bases and stuff even though I dont know what Im doing and it's gonna be a very temporary play time. Ill be on to Legion shortly I guess after a few more levels.

I may go back and mess around with Pandoria, WofD, and Legion. I didnt even touch Cataclysm. I have to Wowhead lots of things. I dont even known what all of the new islands are even for yet.

But like I said, its been fun so far.

One thing I did notice that is hugely lacking is the social aspect. Nobody chats anymore. Maybe its just everyone is just grinding leveling alts where I am. Hopefully the social aspect comes around later.

I do understand they fused all the realms together and most players do not like that, and I see why.

The game used to be hugely social. I'll eventually get in a guild but the fusion of all the realms still wont allow that "single realm" feel. Where you really start getting to know players. Instead of it having that small town feel, it feels more impersonable. Not sure if that makes sense.

This is one of the core problems with modern WoW, IMO. 98% of the content in the game is irrelevant now. Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor might as well not even exist once you hit max level and it's been that way since at least WoD. I really hope Classic is a splash of cold water in the face of the Blizz execs.

Modern WoW is a shell of its former self and is completely inferior in nearly every aspect to Classic/TBC.

Just No. You have a strong case of nostalgia

Nostalgia is a small part of it. The game's mechanics were deeper and more interesting. Players were forced to make difficult choices and gearing was hugely rewarding due to the end game structure.

Classes had actual identity and higher skill ceilings. Sharding, layering, cross-realm play, etc, were absent, resulting in tighter communities.

I had about 100 hours on Nostalrius. Nostalgia brought me in, the superiority of the actual game design is what kept me there until the server was taken down.

Asmongold made a video on the problems of modern WoW and why these changes have resulted in the mass exodus of players.
