I'll admit it's pretty cool to watch someone who has mastered a certain game run a clinic, but like I've said before, my gaming time itself is limited, so I won't waste much of it watching someone else play a game

This.

You can learn a lot about a game watching someone who puts in 5-8 hours a day.

That makes a lot of sense. I figured it was mostly for entertainment or to watch playstyles, but a combination of both seems pretty cool for those who have the time for it.

I probably would have spent tons of time watching streamers when I was in high school/college/right out of college.

Maybe it's me becoming an old man, but is this productive? Mastering gaming..

However, I do enjoy Twitch, but not for the "streamers". I think it's a good platform to scope out new games to play. It is very interesting when you browse 20-30 random streamers playing the same game, you get to see many different approaches and play styles. Sometimes I'm not interested in a title until I see someone approach a game differently, the way I would enjoy.

Depends on the types of games you play and the type of gamer you are. If you're the type to constantly play online games where you're competing against other people then yeah, I think there's value in sharpening those skills a bit for the simple fact that winning is more fun than losing. Not every gamer is like that nor plays those types of games though. It's a "to each their own" type thing.

Sorry if this is hijacking this thread, but what gives watching streamers such appeal? I am genuinely curious, as I may have to give it a try.

I enjoy watching a few people play just because are their incredible skill

Watching Chocotaco carelessly dumpster people in PUBG is a sight to see. Plus he's super chill. Doc on the other hand, I enjoy watching him just from a pure entertainment standpoint, plus it helps that he's usually pretty damn good at the games too

ESPN is a shitshow these days with its programming, so I just prefer to browse twitch
