I think that's a fair statement. Witcher is the best of the bunch by a long, long shot, but the combat didn't feel far removed from European RPG franchises like Gothic, Risen, or Two Worlds. The combat is similar in nature to Fable or Kingdoms of Amaluar but it just lacks the polish. Nevermind the fact that when you start the game, you're able to be killed by a twig, but by the time you finish it's pretty much impossible to die.

I asked this a few weeks ago and got no response. Should I play witcher 1 or 2 1st or just jump into 3? I bought the first two on steam this weekend for super cheap.

According to the reviews, W3 does a good job at filling you in on what you have missed if you don't play the first 3.
With that said, I didn't enjoy 2 nearly as much as 1.

I don't think there will be much carryover from 1&2 into 3. Go ahead and play the first two at your leisure, 1 is really different from 2&3

They designed this with the idea that it may be people's first. You can try and play the older ones but I find 1 to be unplayable for me.
