The combat is kind of bad, but you get used to it.

thats true. but i didnt find it to be bad in the least bit.
however i had already played the witcher 2 and that game took me all the way through the 2nd boss fight to really understand the combat
still. the combat in witcher 3 does require you to approach each enemy with different bombs and signs at least. everyone loves dark souls games combat but you never really change your combat style in those games either, only learn the enemies moves and how to dodge them then counter. (not saying this is bad, its just inherently the same, learn this mobs 2-5 attacks, dodge his attacks, hit him once or twice, repeat)

Playing Horizon: Zero Dawn right now. Excellent story, excellent gameplay. The open world is breathtakingly beautiful. Great depth. Definitely worth a purchase.

Wait, people don't like The Witcher 3's combat? I find it to be incredible. Taking out a red skull griffin is exhilarating.

Ehh I feel like horizon zero dawn was too short and besides the main quests there wasn't much else. The side quests were just fetch quests
