There's been some back & forth about just how powerful the Switch successor would be.
It is always as powerful as last gen consoles

and that is fine for what it is

I agree. The thing that sets their consoles apart from anything else their competitors is their first party IP.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, if they wanted to get into a hardware war with Sony & Microsoft, then the solution is an enhanced dock with extra horsepower for at-home performance boost.

I honestly don't recall. I'd have to look it up.

An article from Forbes indicates that the might be a hardware-only announcement this Thursday, the 16th.

quote:

First, a reveal of the Switch 2 on Thursday, January 16. This would be just about the console itself, no games:

“I’ve heard that the reveal itself is going to focus almost exclusively on the console itself,” says Nate. “here is not going to be any presence of games. There could be a game shown running on the screen, depending on how the trailer is put together, but software is not going to be a focus.”

Then, there would be a separate reveal for software, reportedly down the road in late February or early March, a month or two away.

If hardware specs are coming out like that, Nintendo has to move soon. My guess is their plan would be to have hardware availability so far down the road as to be practically ready to ship the next day, but then a 3 month or so slow burn on the launch titles , especially the first party slate.

I don’t know what any of that means. Is it good?

Also my big hope is that Nintendo has paid off Team Cherry to have Hollow Knight 2 as a Switch 2 exclusive for like six months and it to be a launch title. That game has been taking way too god damn long to be released and the original sold like 18 million copies, so would be a good launch game.

If that's the low key reason for Silksong's delay, that would be AMAZING.

Somehow I'm underwhelmed? I get it's just a hardware reveal and they made some necessary upgrades, I'll still get one and never play it.

It's the Switch 2. Everybody knew it was going to be an iterative improvement on the current platform.

Even if all they do is give you the bigger screen, support 4K when docked, and do the hall effect joysticks to eliminate the drift issue, that's a net win for everybody.
