XDefiant Top 5 Plays
Ubisoft's XDefiant - what is it?
XDefiant is a free-to-play, 6v6 arena FPS, featuring playable character classes pulled from factions across Ubisoft franchises. If you watch any amount of gameplay, you'll notice XDefiant plays a hell of a lot like Call of Duty multiplayer. It has the same speed, a similar time-to-kill, flat-ish maps with limited verticality, and customizable loadouts. It's got a similar set of objective-based gamemodes, too.
Platforms: Windows PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, XBox Series S/X, Google Stadia and Amazon Luna.
Cross Platform: Yes, on launch. (but matchmaking heavily favors same platform lobbies)
Cross Progression: Yes, coming soon after launch.
Maps: 14 on launch. (old school 3 lane design)
Game Modes: TDM, Domination, HardPoint, Kill Confirmed, and Escort.
Killstreaks: Nope.
Ranked/Unranked Modes: Yes, soon after launch
Prestige System: Yes, classic prestige system.
SBMM: Nope, sorry newbs.
Single player campaign: frick no.
Battle Royal mode: frick no. (this isn't the game for you)
Guns: 24 in total
Assault Rifles: M4A1, AK-47, M16A4, ACR 6.8
SMGs: MP5A2, Vector .45 ACP, P90, MP7
Shotguns: M870, Double Barrel, AA-12
LMGs: M249, RPK-74, M60
Marksman Rifles: MK 20 SSR, SVD
Sniper Rifles: M44, TAC-50
Pistols: M9, 686 Magnum, M1911, D50, 93R
Yes, there's gun customization too. Appears there are currently around 44 gun attachments.
Looking forward to this, holding out hope this starts the tidal wave of players leaving CoD. The Devs have really come a long way with this one. And have done so, by collecting feedback and listening to their community. Wild concept these days.
Ohh, almost forgot: #LeaveLittleChildrenAlone. Sorry, not sorry COD fanbois

or not. continue playing the same copy and paste product year after year.
oooh, i heard in Season 5 they’re planning on bringing back feature X that was apart of the base game in 2019 and Map Y that was a part of the base game in 2013! Yay!

I'm not saying your wrong, but there are franchises like Madden and CoD that are just beasts and will sell regardless of what copy+paste job they do on their game. The only way CoD stops selling is if they stop making it.

you’re not wrong either. it’s very successful for those franchises. Those are perfect examples. 2k is another.
They sell millions of copies and pretend they care about their customer base when in reality they pay content creators to pretend they have some input into the product.
The current form of CoD is a bastard that almost no one wants, but it’s the only thing available. Think about it, what part of MW2 is good. Multiplayer? Warzone? The fans are furious about the state of both. Not to mention they lied about this being a 2 year game.
OG COD players want 3 lane maps, 6v6, where gun play is all that matters.
And that’s the sliver of hope this game represents. Also helps a lot of the ex-COD Developers are behind XDefiant. Including Mark Rubin, who is considered the mastermind of COD4 and MW2.
Mark’s tweet from just earlier today:
but go read his replies, he’s on Twitter every day answering questions and providing updates. On the other hand, you’ve got COD and Activision thinking they can spam tweet their way out of the current mess they are in, continuing to drive their fanbase further away.

XDefiant is a love letter to the arcade arena shooter! Is it a CoD-killer? Pfft....I have no idea. We're just trying to make a game that people can love for a long time. But it is up to all of you, the players, to make #XDefiant a success. Just wanted to share that thought. ??

I'll give it a shot in the open beta period. It still looks like Fortnite cartoon bullshite, so I doubt it's for me.

I admit I've read nothing on this, are these going to be the R6/Overwatch style game where each character has his own abilities/powers or will they all be just toons?

the factions I believe is what you’re referring to. And yes, that’s a wildcard for me. I’m interested to see how it’s implemented. IMO - if you call yourself a ‘true 6v6 arcade arena FPS’, this type of thing can’t be overpowered or it’ll feel gimmicky. should be about 1v1 gunplay first and foremost.
here’s a decent summary: AFKGaming.com XDefiant Factions
Libertard (Far Cry) - Healers (Experts at healing themselves and their teammates)
Phantoms (Ghost Recon) - Tanks (Use shields of various forms to take greater damage
Echelon (Splinter Cell) - Recon (Provide intel on the enemy, as well as staying undetected themselves)
Cleaners (The Division) - Damage Dealers (Focused entirely on greater damage output
DeadSec (Watch Dogs) - Control (Specialized in using and countering traps)
from my understanding of the closed BETA back in April, the favorites were Echelon and Cleaners. DeadSec wasn’t in the game at that time.

pretty cool video showcasing XDefiant’s Practice Zone. Actually getting damage data on your weapon in the Firing Range and being able to swap attachments on the fly

same for xbox. the open session beta isn’t available yet. i know the intention was for those who played the closed beta in April to get it one day early. I see them all streaming it.

I registered for it so hopefully I'll see an invite soon.
I seriously don't need another game but whatever

I mean, this kind of game seems targeted more to the Overwatch crowd than CoD.
That said, I fully expect this to be another game that is hyped for like 1 week then slowly fades into oblivion much like Ubisoft's attempt at the BR genre.

i question whether or not you’ve actually watched any gameplay. but yeah, thanks for your well thought out input.

i'll give it a shot. i think one of the main problems are "arena shooters" in general. it's a played out genre. but how do you revise it and make it fresh?
