Agreed. Red and Blue hold a special place but X/Y are incredible games.
Saying that, anyone want to trade a Zapdos? I just have this damn Moltres as Froakie was my starter.

Not really.
Yellow is an updated gameboy version of Red/Blue with features added
FireRed is an even more updated gameboy advanced version or Red
LeafGreen is an even more updated gameboy advanced version of Blue
So basically they are all the same game. FireRed and LeafGreen will give you updated Graphics, fix some gen 1 bugs, adds a bunch of new features.
As for pokemon it is all the same, well except for a few new legendary end game pokemon and islands you can visit.

for those questioning if they should buy a 3ds, you should. I recently joined up and really missed GOOD portable gaming. I only have a few games at this time but I still think it will be worth it when I get around to playing dark moon, FE:Awakening, etc.
