Hmm fair enough. I can see the merit and argument in your logic for something like shadow or blood and wine which could’ve very easily been sold as full games. I just simply don’t want it to be the new standard. And remasters being thrown in? The frick are we doing? Naughty dog so down bad they need to remaster last of us two again again?

Did they not have a dlc category a year or two ago whenever Phantom Liberty came out? I could’ve sworn that and the 2.0 update won something that year

I dont remember them ever giving much of a frick at all about dlc tbh.
And I get the argument for its inclusion. Erdtree was a full game essentially and they could have actively chosen to sell it as a sequel and not 1 person wouldve peeped up about it. But they didnt and went pro consumer with a 40 dollar expansion. I respect that but they then cant expect their expansion to win game of the year...again

Oh no I dont think Fromsoft gives a shite or is a conspiracy behind this at all. Bandai....maybe who knows. I think theres probably just a good amount of people who think it should qualify for goty because of its quality length etc. While im on the polar opposite opinion where I thought it was amazing but absolutely should be relegated to its own category because words have meanings and an expansion isnt a new game.

Meh. Its no 2023 but plenty of really good games came out this. It was a shite year for people who solely buy the biggest triple aaa slop though because it was all extra garbage even worse than usual.
Metaphor is one of the best classic style jrpgs in 4-5 years since p5 at least and idk i cant tell which one i think is better theyre both 10s

It was a mediocre year in general, but an abysmal year for anyone who doesn’t play on PlayStation.

I agree. Whats funny is what absolutely saved sony dumb greedy asses was talented upstarts making a game in stellar blade that offends like 10% of the gaming pop because shes hot, their old reliable pals SQE who promptly got fricked in the deal and gave sony the finger, a platformer game made by a team they probably kept in a closet, some weird deal with black myth wukong (another upstart) and a few others that went multi plat like metaphor.

i dont know if i have a real strong contender this year personally.
i havent played refantazio yet and i bet that would be up there.
space marine 2 was a huge kick in the arse and i still paly here and there, but goty quality? eh.
so probably down to persona 3 reload and like dragon infinite wealth.
Probably give the nod to infinite wealth.
ff7 doesnt come close. that thing was so bloated i was praying for sweet release by the end.

I hope metaphor wins. The game is great and it is a true original experience.

I am only in Chapter 3 but enjoying it much more than Remake.

1. Black Myth Wukong

Metaphor is my personal goty and I played pretty much almost every game that came out this year that could possibly be considered as worth it. I say this as someone who has held FF as my fave franchise since I was like 6 years old. Rebirth just simply isnt as good as Metaphor even thought its fantastic. The only one I havent really played with a bunch of hype and good buzz behind it is balatro but lets be honest no matter how good that game is its a poker indie really creative title by one man. It isnt the goty.
Black myth wukong was a fun game. I enjoyed it. I think it deserves to be nominated for goty but it is the lowest one on the list for me. It is essentially a boss rush mode with the story of journey to west in it which is fine and all its just not the type of package I think should be beyond a goty nom.
I didnt play Veilgaurd and I never will. Very glad it didnt get nominated except for the pity category of accessibility. Also didnt play Dragons Dogma 2

Played Rise of the Ronin because I hoped it would give me some ghost vibes. Team Ninja games just arent my vibe and never have been. Ive tried to play almost all of them and the only one I have ever finished was strangers of paradise and that was mostly due to its final fantasy trappings. I dont deny their quality, I just dont really find the gameplay loop they employ in all of their games to be my thing. Rise of the Ronin to be fair though is likely the biggest departure from that, I still just stopped about halfway

That's fair. I played Strangers of Paradise earlier this year and enjoyed it. I think Wo Long was their best
