I played all weekend
2 divine beasts (rito and zora)
who knows how many shrines
all towers except 2
6 memories restored plus the ones restored via the main quest
the hype is real. no open world game even compares when it comes to the sense of discovery. it's a game that really gives you no pace but your own and doesn't hold your hand. I turned off the HUD and the sheikah finder immediately.
it's difficult, but not too difficult. the combat cannot be mastered so you're never just going to breeze through anything. they have different weapons and they can jab or swing and you have to parry or dodge at the exact moment to get a flurry attack.
the temples are more of a majora's mask situation. the temple itself is the puzzle and if you understand all the moving pieces it is not that difficult. I breezed through the rito beast, but I spent almost a couple of hours in the zora beast because I didn't know you could control the beast.
shrines are great. instead of having to fit the puzzle to a dungeon layout, it's a chance for all of the creative ideas to be used. there are so many instances where you can solve things the way you would like to do it. there's an incredible amount of freedom

there is one design flaw on one temple. you can just step on the switch freeze it and walk through the door rather than going through the designed way of doing it

You just figured out another way to win, doesn't make it flawed.
A lot of the early shrines teach you gimmicks in that manner, because you need said gimmicks later in the game.

When you find this one you will see what I mean. This one is actually one that shouldn't have gotten past testing.
Don't get me wrong, the hype and praise is deserved. Most fun I've maybe ever had. Favorite moment is skull lake. I get there it's pouring so I can't climb. I get underneath an overhanging rock set a fire and wait it out. Everything in this game behaves as it should. If you get hit by a big arse boulder...you die

there are several puzzles where you can beat it more than 1 way, but this one shrine is different, it's a total flaw because 1 of the options takes 1 second and at this point in the game you've been conditioned to check for rune opportunities.
I think it is the shrine right outside of the gerudo village

It's so hard to focus test everything. I listened to the in game commentary for Portal when they talked about trying to make sure you couldn't shortcut puzzles and what they had to do to block those shortcuts. One of them, when they discovered it, they were so impressed with it they left it in just to see if people would figure it out.
Once I saw it, the only way I do that one

SPOILERS
So I just beat the Hinox, in unchartered territory (I've only done like 3 towers), nothing but Fire Arrows, Bombs and clever running (between his legs really worked and no stupid zone damage like a lot of games do). Have barely touched the main story.Took me like 15 minutes or so chipping away at small pieces of his health.
Felt like one of those random adventures that games spend a lot of time trying to build, but no matter what can't make it feel natural.
Kind of blown away at this point

even still that shrine was one of the more enjoyable ones
the dungeons...one was really good and one was really easy so far. I think majora's mask is overrated but it definitely has those temple designs in spirit. basically the game asks you to understand how the moving pieces work together and then you can solve each little puzzle in no time. I really like them.

i actually hate exploring in games, i like some direction and focus, and typically little things don't wow me
this game changes all of that for me. it is really the dumbest fricking things that have given me such a satisfying feeling. i'm going to be playing this game forever.
pro mode is a must BTW...turn off the HUD everyone, trust me it's awesome.

Reminds me of when I finally got over the hump with Fallout 3. Was never the same since.

Zelda has tried their hand at making the overworld a puzzle and it just makes MM and SS feel claustrophobic. then they nailed it in a link between worlds.

I will turn the HUD off the next time I get a chance to play. I am a little overwhelmed by the size of the world (3 towers so far) and realize all at the same time that I've still only revealed a fraction of the entire map. Even so, the game is pretty awesome. It's like when you played OOT and said - why can't I do this or that? This game allows you to do most of those things.

You can see almost every tower. I use the map don't get me wrong, but just not the HUD because it distracts from the game
You don't need the sneak meter because of the audio cues.

I hope the DLC for this game goes back in time before this all happens or at least lets you play as one of the champions.
Or maybe everyone gets revived and doesn't make this the most bitter sweet game of the last half century :D

so, are any of you all actually trying to fill out the hyrule compendium?
I remember to take cool pictures when I find a rare weapon or shield or bow but cataloging every rusty sword and boko club and wooden shield.. yikes.
great feature for completionists though. that and the 900 fricking Korok seeds

no freaking way.
may try and do that but the 900 seeds are impossible. I have no idea how I can be expected to find them unless I use the sheikah finder which I've turned off because hunting for shrines from vantage points is a lot more fun.

how about some of the lesser grinds...
anyone find 100 restless crickets or 55 rushrooms yet?
I feel like ive probably missed 100 korok seed hiding spots even though I think im paying close attention.
veering off any road or main path can turn into an hour long detour easily. then getting back to the main road is a chore in itself
