Guy beats the original Super Mario brothers in under 5 minutes.

LINK

a blast from the past. this was the first video game I ever played and beat. it took me a lot longer than 5 minutes. it seemed way tougher back then.

This is so great. Most of these are done using bots. I've spent hours watching people crap all over my childhood with speed runs.

To me the most impressive speed run was the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

I never got close to beating that game, rarely made it past the GODDAMN DAM

I love watching speed runners.

Mario 64 speed runs are fun to watch.

They have dudes that grind out insane amounts of hours trying to gain 1 second on Goldeneye levels.

Did that one have an underwater level with brown seaweed that instantly killed you?

Apparently to pull off this WR you need some luck too

At 4-2 he glitches the warp zone somehow and instead of being up the vine it is down the pipe

In 8-4 he pulls off a suspect pipe jump

Then you need the right "bowser pattern" which is determined by frame intervals for hitting the prior level flag

apparently he only lost to a tool-assisted run by 1/6 of a second. crazy

how does he do those high jumps and clip through the biting plants

The clipping thru the pipe plants and hammers is based on careful study of what pixels represent the hit box and which dont.

The pipe jump in 8-4 is some vile sorcery

A lot of the speed runners have people that go into the code and explore ideas. That's one reason they find so many glitches.

What really blows my mind, are the people who speed run games like Final Fantasy VII.

Over 6 hours for the record. I can't imagine "practicing" that.

That was awesome. The heart rate monitor was a nice touch too!
