Pretty impressive. Some people are having problems launching the game but initial reviews are 87% very positive

i'm very, very tempted. watched someone streaming, looks great

I hope they sell enough copies so that the scummy publisher has to pay the developers their performance bonus.

What happened with the lawsuit? Did the current owners screw the previous devs / owner out of their money?
I'm surprised that a few streamers are playing it because a while back they were fairly critical of the situation.
A weird situation because the game needs to do well for the previous owners to have a chance of getting anything but there is no guarantee the current owners will pay the promised bonus.
Sketchy situation.

Long story short is that a south korean company bought the company that made subnautica 2. The devs were promised up to a $250 million bonus if the game released on time in 2025 and hit a certain number of copies sold. The devs said the game was ready to go in the fall of 2025 but the new owner didn't want to pay that bonus so he hatched a plan, using chatgpt, to fire the devs and push back the release date.
A court ruled in the devs favor, forced the new company to rehire them, and pay the bonuses if the sales numbers are reached.

I've seen the OG game on sale on Switch and haven't pulled the trigger on it

Been watching some streamers play it...why do the oxygen, health, etc. gauges count down counter-clockwise!? Can that be changed in the options? It's driving me insane

I got it on a Steam sale a long time back for next to nothing. It was entertaining. I see it's like $8 on Switch. Totally worth it if you're into that style of game.

The first game is better than Below Zero.

I'm not exactly sure what the style of game is, TBH. I know shite happens underwater.
That's it.

Survival/crafting type thing. It's a nice twist on the genre with it being underwater-based, and there's a cohesive plot to go along with it unlike some other games in that genre.

Is it like No Man's Sky, but underwater?

Bought - already played about an hour. I have A TON of hours in the original and I neither played nor bought Sub Zero.
So far, I give it a tentative recommend. Because I was late to Subnautica and got it on sale, I had little heartburn paying $30 for this. It is beautiful. There are slight differences in mechanics I feel I will get used to.
Looks and sounds great. I have a mid-high build from last year. No performance issues so far.
Side note: The drama surrounding this game has been off the charts. Apparently, just a small distraction though.

It's literally one of the greatest PC games of all time. I'm not qualifying it as "indie" or "AA", etc. Period.

Yeah, I'd say they're similar enough that if you like one, then you'd like the other. That's true for me as I like both.

Curious how early access works on this because I waited until after 1.0 to play the first two. I loved them both though BZ less so.
Will the story to the game come out with updates or is it all finished?

From my limited time with no mans sky at its release id say not really.
There is clear progression and plot to keep you moving and the game keeps changing as you move through it. No mans sky felt more sandboxy to me.
In subnautica you are actively solving a mystery as to what happened to the rest of the survivors

Just picked it up for Switch 2

Now it makes sense why streamers are playing it. They need to hit specific numbers for the bonus. What I don't quite understand is do they have to hit the numbers in the same year the game is released 1.0 or will Krafton pull more bullshite and claim the numbers have to be hit during early access?
