I’m not a pc guy so maybe I’m stupid. But why do this instead of just plugging your gaming PC into your TV HDMI input? What’s the point here?

Realistically none. But Steam machine offers a very small form factor and HDMI CEC out of the box. Most people aren’t going to go through the trouble of installing Steam OS and all the tinkering required to get what the Steam machine will have out of the box.

This should've been 700 with a controller.

699 was likely their target price, but the ram apocalypse screwed that up. PS6 and new xbox are likely delayed by years because of this.

@ Half-Life 3

never played the others but i know a third installment is definitely wanted from it's fans.

So I turned 11 the year the original Half-Life came out and that game did things that were so incredible I can still vividly remember playing, my emotions especially when the HECU arrive, the way they'd work as a team against you...it's why I put over 450hrs in Black Mesa a couple years back.

I have no intention of buying the Steam Machine, I have no interest in consoles from anybody. HOWEVER, if I had to buy a Steam Machine for $1100 but I got Half-Life 3 I'd have that shite pre-ordered right this second.

So yeah, "definitely wanted" is one way to put it.

I get it. Everybody wants to hate this thing.

i dont and i think its a great concept.

the timing is horrible though. Those of us posting here are well aware of the ram and memory issues the market is dealing with. So, that price tag is eye popping, but i get it. Your average consumer is not going to, and has very limited knowledge of steam more than likely, so its going to be a hard pass for them.
