Should I play RDR (original) before I try this one?
RDR is really great. It's a much different pace than RDR2. If you like rockstar games then I would say go ahead and do it.

Mind=blown. Didn't know that. Oh the time I could've saved...and all the bodies I skipped looting because I didn't think it was worth the animation time

If you turn off the looting animation I assume then when you press loot it just instantly gives you what they had?

I don’t see an option to turn the looting animation off in the settings.

how the hell do you do this?
I've learned a couple of things today. Learned that you can speed up looting (waiting to see how that happens), and learned that you can apparently fast travel. I completed everything up to the Epilogue without realizing this. I think I saw that you access this by upgrading camp? How exactly do you upgrade came? I've been giving them all kinds of money and haven't noticed anything. I did notice that if you bring back certain items (skins, antlers, etc) that you can upgrade certain aspects of camp, but I never felt like taking the time to hunt down each thing required. What am I missing? lol

Prolly not far enough in the story to upgrade your camp. It’s pretty obvious when it gets unlocked

like I said, I played the entire story and most side missions up until the epilogue.
i've been known to play while drinking a lot of bourbon, so whatever it was I clearly missed it lol
EDIT: looked it up...(i just simply never opened the ledger or realized that upgrading Dutch's tent was so important)
What you’ll need to do is head to the camp’s money box and open up the ledger next to it. From there, upgrade Dutch’s lodgings, which has the added benefit of inspiring other gang members to contribute more.
This will also unlock a map upgrade – this is how you fast travel. Buy that, and the map will appear somewhere in your camp – its precise location is different depending on where your camp is located but is usually close to Arthur’s tent.

How the frick did you play the whole game without upgrading camp?
Like immediately once you get off the mountain there is a ledger right next to the donation box where you upgrade camp.

i know about the ledger. i just never bothered to open it. apparently you don't need to...

Lol apparently not. Impressive

i guess the irritating thing about not doing it is that I kept donating to the money box without doing any of the upgrades (because again, i didn't realize you did those by opening the ledger), which then led to others in the camp not donating. so all of the money was coming from me yet I wasn't getting anything out of it and it was largely a waste.

i didnt donate to the box one time, just bought all the upgrades. i dont see how it affected my game in any way
looking back, it was such a forgettable experience save for the manor assault and the ending missions. they went way overboard with the immersion bullshite and the game just felt like a chore to play. wasn't half as good as RDR1

Did they add that in a patch?

Agreed. RDR2 is worth a play to experience the world alone but if you play video games for "fun" like most people do, it sorely lacks that in a lot of places unnecessarily.

when I read that GTA6 will be more of the same, I died inside. Carry 2 guns and have to go to the trunk of your car to exchange them? GTFO, it's GTA. I want to have an entire arsenal available with a weapon wheel so I can swap from RPG to minigun to flamethrower in 5 seconds. It's not meant to be like real life

I literally played 95% of the game not knowing you could fast travel in the carriage. I auto-ran in cinematic mode everywhere. I guess the plus was that I did a shite ton of random encounter stuff.

We've definitely reached peak "immersion"
Putting mechanics that are 'realistic' in your game that obviously make the game less fun or a chore to play is not progress. Real life is full of tedium and crap, one of the best things about video games is you can cut out all that shite. When VR simulations become true to life, people won't use them to simulate doing their taxes or waiting in line at the DMV.
I mean what's next, before you rest at the inn you gotta untie your shoes? And then tie them on again the next morning? Super realistic right, so immersive. Let's not forget about stopping to go use the bathroom every few hours.

Absolutely this. Called it early on too that this game was wildly overrated at the time of release. They sacrificed so much time and so many resources in the pursuit of realism I think they forgot to actually make the game fun.
Also I wish they would have added more varied random encounters, stranger missions, and places that actually felt worthwhile to explore. For all skyrom’s flaws, the one thing I loved about that style of open world is that you always felt like there’s something interesting waiting on top of the next mountain or in a random cave. Never got that feeling in RDR2.
I think if they lean a lot harder into the horror elements with an undead DLC it could alleviate a lot of those problems.

Yo. None of us can figure out how to turn off the looting animation. Can you enlighten us?
