I'm convinced Miyamoto is trying so damn hard to kill this franchise

I am out of the loop. By forcing star fox into the newest mario movie and dropping a pretty cool direct for the upcoming star fox game? I would think most kids nowadays don't know who star fox is and it will now be one of their favorite characters. Maybe wishful thinking though.
That direct brought back some cool SNES/N64 memories. Will be replaying the N64 version this weekend!

They are releasing pretty much the exact same Star Fox game for the 4th time on a 4th console, aptly named Star Fox.
64 is a masterpiece but I can't believe that over 30 years they haven't figured anything better out than to just remake the exact same Star Fox experience over and over again with different visuals.
64 was essentially a remake/retelling of the original SNES game and Zero was basically the same thing as well, just with that horrible dual screen shite.
Given how poorly the Wii U sold there's probably an entire generation who has never played a Star Fox game before so remaking 64 is an easy way to do, but it's exceptionally underwhelmeing for people wanting a new Star Fox game.
I don't mean new like Star Fox Adventures new, but new as in like an entire different campaign and set of levels and bosses.
And one of the biggest complaints about the Wii U game will persist here, length. Star Fox 64 is an extremely short game. There's 16 distinct missions and each one takes what, 10 minutes?
If you aren't someone who's going ot replay it over and over agiant o go for different scores and challenges and routes nad stuff, your'e going to run out of stuff to do very quickly.

I'm not going to lie, I would be pretty good with just a straightforward Starfox64 remaster with modern graphics.

Star Fox Assault is underrated.

I was so happy, until they showed the gameplay. A rails shooter in 2026, WTF nintendo. They are sucking up nostalgia dollars until it bankrupts them.

People will be upset but I’m super pumped about this.

Starfox is not that popular outside of 90s kids.
But the Galaxy appearance and this is probably a good test to see if he can be. They don't need you, who has probably played Starfox a bunch of times as mentioned, to buy this game.
They need new takers on the IP, and this is probably a cost-effective way to test the waters.
Nintendo handles IPs pretty well, look at how Mario really is a global brand, that's new. Look at the push to Zelda. Look at Splatoon and it's growth.
Even their over-zealousness on re-use of IP hasn't impacted them too much.
This is a strategy to build a new IP, not to make a true, new sequel.
