yes

depends on what you mean by smooth. its buggy. i have a significant amount of game time in now. i have run into dozens of minor bugs and 3 major bug that required me to revert to a previous save. Graphically, it runs well on most set ups.

most of the game play is. there are certainly many aspects of it that are sorely lacking in any tutorial or teaching. i had/have to look up certain mechanics frequently. particularly in the ship building part of the game (which you dont need to engage in if you dont want to). the travel system is overly complicated and not explained well.

Anybody with PC knowledge know why my pc after a while will have some kind of glitchy looking tear on the screen then black out for a second when playing this game?

I have, what I though to be a high end pc.

Check to make sure the Graphics card is properly seated. Enough really strong local thunder rumbling has been known to shake a weak seat loose.

Also kinda sounds like a memory leak on the gpu.

Yes.

Performance-wise? It's like anything else in that if you have a decent enough setup it will run smooth as silk. Game mechanics-wise? Yes.

Is it intuitive?

Only if you've played games like Mass Effect or even COD (whether single player or with others). WASD movement, spacebar to jump, CTRL to crouch, etc. Exploring (using a scanner to scan things) and combat are like riding a bicycle.

BUUuuuuuut... there's a LOT in this game and there are no tutorials. For instance, once you win your first space battle (which happens in the introduction-ish phase) you will be told to snag a valuable piece of the ship you just destroyed. HOW to do that is never explained (I just kept running into it, hoping some instructive graphics would appear, but alas...), but I now know that you have to put your target focus on it then hit E.

The ship builder isn't all that intuitive either, at least with mouse and keyboard. I should be able to click on the information panel on the left side of the screen to switch between categories as well as scroll the ribbon along the bottom of the screen. That said, it does have an automated connection feature which can be handy... if you can get the right piece facing in the right direction.

The various levels of maps combine to be very immersive but there's no list of visited places for you to quick-jump to (or even locate) and there are no city-level maps. The lack of these is counter-intuitive, the lack of city-level maps being especially so.

That said, the game is very fun and you will burn through an insane amount of time without realizing it.

Also, if you really want a new ship, jus do the Mantis mission.

The perils of procedural generation... I saw a video on this and the goober in the video said it came from the abandoned space station orbiting the Moon. Thinking the quest's start there was a static thing I went in and laid waste to the place. I spent the brunt of last night going back over every (*^&@'ing room and corpse on the station to find the message only to find out later that it can randomly show up in any such station.

On the plus side, I ended up with enough loot to fill up my own inventory, the ship's, Vasco's and even loaded a few items onto Sarah. I broke the transaction unit at New Atlantis.

Footnote: Earth is just a frigid dirtball (I know this thread is supposed to be spoiler-free, but it was worthless to go there other than to see what the planet looks like so I figured I would save people the time).

Inventory management is a killer for me right now.

it’s a 7/10 or 8/10

i think i have enough time sunk in to say what my personals core would be and i would put it at a 7.5.

i know some review sites were getting trashed for scoring it a 7. is still a good game. i am enjoying it and will be playing through the whole thing.

there are just too many things that are lacking to boost it up to an 8 or 9 for me. In addition to the number of bugs ive run into. i dont think giving it an 8 would be too crazy for some peoples personal tastes. i think a 9 is questionable. some sites scoring it a 10/10 i think is ludicrous. that's them wanting the game to be a 10/10, not reality.

Yea I think the actual game itself (story and gameplay) is a solid 8-9/10. Some of the UI, maps, etc are a 5-6/10. So, I think 7-8/10 is a pretty fair score for the game.

Same. My cargo hold is over 800 and I still have my and all my companions' pockets full

I had to resort to putting quests aside so I can build up my main outpost to hold everything. I've also been using the hell out of the bottomless safe in the Constellation room

ETA: the game seems to encourage putting extra weapons and suits on racks in ships and outposts. It ends up giving the game a sense of realism that I'm all for.

Yea I do like the aesthetic aspect of that. Mine is mainly resources and health items. I do need to start limiting the amount of guns i'm carrying. No real need to have all the of the top 3 hot swap sections full of guns.

I've also just been saving up as many resources I get as I can, for when I start wanting to craft/mod things.

Had not thought of that! On a bit of a side note: I have been thinking about stashing illegal merchandise on that now-empty space station for when I finally find a place I can sell them.

I’m having a slight issue of not leaving New Atlantis since I keep finding new things to do.

I ended the night working on the "brown out" mission line. I thought it would be a somewhat quick run for some easy exp, ended the night with it still unresolved.

The wife is out of town this weekend, I may end up spending the whole weekend not even eating while I play this.

People in the comments saying they can't get 4k/60 with a 4090/13900k setup. LOL

I downloaded last night. Guess I'm downloading that DLSS mod too. It'd be one thing if this game had truly next gen visuals, but it doesn't. It looks like something that came out 5 years ago.

Not a bad idea. Which space station are you talking about? I may not have done the main story enough to come to this one yet.

I did a similar one last night. I was just hopping around systems looking for pirates or bounty hunters to get some space combat ships destroyed. Ended up coming to a planet with a distress call from some lab. Go in and lay ruin to all the Spacers trying to invade. Which led to hopping to remote field sites to destroy more, then a space battle, then back to the original lab to fend off an invasion of more. Safe to say what I thought was going to be a quick little side mission, turned into a fun hour or so battle.

In orbit between the Earth and the Moon (you can get to it by grav-jumping to either planet).

Companion tip as well. Make sure your companion has at least one shrapnel or frag grenade on them. That will give them unlimited grenades and they will chuck those things like their life depends on it
