Looks sharp

I mained as a Trooper when it released

Was able to solo much of the story, like the other classes

First big update they nerfed Troopers, making them the only class that struggles to solo. Iirc, the stated reason was something akin to "they were too popular, this is supposed to be a jedi game"

Haven't played since

Almost exactly 10 years ago, that update dropped

Malgus is one of the best Star Wars villains out there. He's despised by both the Sith and the Jedi.

Once again, video game developers doing Star Wars better than the ones in charge of Star Wars.

Might have to get back into the game again.

I honestly thought they shut down the servers for this game years ago.

Just read that they're removing the weapon locks on characters. Use whatever lightsaber you want, whatever blaster you want, etc. Supposedly you can even use dark side powers as a jedi, and vice versa.

Might have to jump back in just to force lightning errrone as a Jedi.

I completed all 8 class stories; can't remember which class I ended up taking through the future storylines.

Curious how this story arc works in tandem with what they did with the Eternal Empire, etc.

I do have a few things to say about this game.

The art style is terrible. They outsourced the armor designs to some third party studio, and it shows. Also, I know it's 300 years in the future, but the visuals try much harder to mirror the films than KOTOR. The Sith literally pilot Star Destroyers, and both Republic and Sith troopers look just like stormtroopers.

The game engine the game is built on is utter trash. It's so bad that for like 6 months after the game was released, players weren't allowed to turn on high resolution character textures. Plans for large scale faction-based PVP had to be completely abandoned because the game couldn't handle that many people on screen at once.

The planets are all needlessly large, empty, and devoid of anything meaningful or interesting. There are no day/night cycles. Most NPCs or mobs literally just stand in one spot waiting for you to kill them. The worst are the NPCs who are perpetually frozen in a battle stance for all eternity.

The zones, especially in the later stages of the base game, really feel like copy/pasted differently colored forest areas.

The hub zones (Republic/Sith Fleet) are both equally boring and terrible.

All "expansions" are glorified live updates with only one or two new zones, a super short story, and a flashpoint and raid or two.

The only exception is Knights of the Fallen Empire, which has a plot that makes zero sense for anyone but a Jedi character and is basically Drew Karpyshyn and the other writers saying "frick it, we're no longer canon, so we're just going to go nuts." They also completely fricked the art style by making these weird uncanny valley NPCs and juxtaposing them with the stylized player character and NPCs from the base game.

Even that released unfinished as half the storyline was released in monthly content updates. These monthly content updates usually consisted of one or two quests where your character ran down a hallway and killed some robots before watching a cutscene. Flashpoint/Raid progression was severally de-emphasized to the point of where the "Massively Multiplayer" element of SW:TOR was essentially killed off in favor of some weird single player galactic conquest grind.

What's really bizarre is that in spite of everything you just said, I loved the game to death

It's not even that I disagree, it's just the game somehow works and was super memorable for me
