From what I've read, manufacturers are reaching their peak on SSD performance with the 840pro only being a 10% performance increase as compared to the 30% performance from the 840 and it's predecessor.

This. It's a good price, but not a great price. This sale shouldn't be the deciding factor. You all should have been running SSDs last year. Still, the main difference in performance is write speed, but the true real-world everyday joy of an SSD is read speed.

Yep. They are saturating the SATA III interface.
Next step is SATA IV (SATA Express?)or PCI Express drives.

Should I go ahead and get this as a HDD replacement? I save everything on an external as far torrents but I'd like my computer to be faster than it already is...

Guys I currently have my OS and all my steam games on a samsung 240gb SSD and it's nearing capacity. I also have a 500gb HDD that contains my backup and it's nearly at capactiy too. I'm talking my windows backup is taking all but 130gb of 465gb total on the drive.
Would you a) buy this second SSD and Raid0 them together, b) buy a second, larger HDD and move all steam stuff over, c) do both? Do I need to change my backup settings to take up less space? I have it set to have one backup that refreshes weekly.
I know that there are issues with changing an achi boot drive to raid where I would have to reinstall anyway. So if I chose to go the raid route I would have to empty my HDD and move my steam content over anyway to avoid having to reDL all my steam games.

steam is on a 2TB 5400 rpm green drive and i have no lag issues, fwiw.
since you already have it on an SSD though, you might notice a slow down. (my steam has never been on an SSD so i have no reference point)
if no one can come up with a compatibility issue with RAID though i think i would go with it since you would be buying a single drive instead of two (or instead of a much larger and more expensive ssd)

Slower loading time maybe. Not game lag.

youre talking about buying another ssd right?
What I'm thinking now is to buy a 2-3TB HDD and move my steam games and general storage there. The reason I bought the 500gb HDD i did is because it had a 5 year warranty, so I think I will leave it as my backup. thoughts?

the only noticeable difference i see is in navigating from folder to folder on the hdd (especially when previously navigating folders on the ssd). performance of steam games is fine. slightly longer start up and load windows than SC4 which is on the ssd.

so you agree that buying a 2-3tb HDD would be a good idea for storage of games and media that are pretty easily replaced?
now I need super deal master stout to find me a dirt cheap price on a huge HDD with a good reputation. any minute now...

Get all of that Steam stuff off of the SSD!!! Get this and thank me later, move what you want to the SSD and move it back when you are not playing it. Games that don't have load screens really don't need the SSD anyway.

I got a 1Tb 7200rpm seagate barracuda for $60 and It hasbeen awesome for me. Its the cheapest 1tb 7200rpm drive I'm pretty sure

The 2tb varieties are going for about 90 and the 3tb for like 125. I was hoping stout would come out of the woodwork with a crazy good deal per usual.

How does one come to have 2-3 TBs of stuff? Is your computer hooked up to your telivision for movies?
