Change my mind

In terms of actually playing the game, yes. You play MGS for a couple hours before you realize you're watching a movie.

Splinter Cell up to Double Agent was great
Chaos Theory is one of my favorite games of all time.

Those are 2 really difficult to compare series, despite them both being in the stealth genre. It's almost like comparing Mario Kart to Forza in my mind.
For one, the original MGS came out 4 years prior to the original Splinter Cell (and we're ignoring the original MG games, of course). MGS is also typically trying to tell a more over the top story with broader themses than what I've seen of Splinter Cell, which plays it pretty straight and leans more toward realism.
I haven't played every Splinter Cell game, but I found the original entry very bland, the second an improvement, and Chaos Theory was great. I've heard the entries past that, specifically the more recent ones, are good, but I've had less exposure to them. Those games seem to take themselves very seriously, though.
The gameplay of MGS took a bit too long to evolve (stuck with the overhead camera for too long), though I always found the wackiness, self awareness, and over the top nature of the games to be really interesting, entertaining, and even thought provoking. I also think it's a unique amalgamation of Japanese and American culture that I find super fascinating.

I have fond memories of chaos theory.

Agreed. I just bought the first 4 splinter cell games during the ubisoft sale two weeks ago. That's saying a lot considering I never play single player games anymore.

No one in Splinter Cell ever read my mind and told me I liked Castlevania.

I'm still eagerly awaiting splinter cell Blacklist backwards compatibility for xbone. Double agent wasn't nearly as terrible as Conviction was to me. They tried to reinvent the wheel with that one. Blacklist went back to the basics.
Chaos theory multiplayer was super enjoyable.

These 2 series are built around stealth but they're both trying to do very different things.

same. 1st 4 games were awesome

First two were legit but then they started a downward spiral. None are better than Snake Eater or Sons of Liberty.

Playing through MGS4, I would always get pissed when I could tell a level was almost finished because that meant a 4 hour cut scene was coming.
