So sad how Steam sales have fallen

We used to have a lenghty thread each sale. The flash sales killed it. You buy everything you want day one and then DGAF.

I think the larger problem is that you have the same sales over and over again. As an example, I’ve had No Man’s Sky on my steam wishlist for years. Game was released in 2016. It’s still listed at $60 and always goes 50% off. If I wasn’t willing to pay $30 two years ago, I’m probably not willing to pay $30 now.
It seems like the days of being able to pick up 5-10 year old AAA games for less than $10 are all but gone.

Agreed. The price you see is likely the price and price reduction it will be forever.... Unless the dev stops updating or something

Epic Games has the best deals these days.

Epic is losing their arse though giving away so many games.
Half a billion in the last 2 years to be exact.

I sign in a couple of times a month, get the available free game and sign out.

Yup. Which has also limited my prospective buying. Because I’ll see the same price every quarter forever, unless I’m going to play the game in the next quarter, I don’t buy it. In the past, I would build a backlog of dozens, if not hundreds, of games just because the price felt too damned good to pass up

Are there any newish games to look at? I haven't bought something on steam in awhile.
I've looked at Rimworld but seems pricey.
That MMO New World has me interested but reviews have turned me off. Figure I can just hop on Elder Scrolls if I get an itch.

I'm afraid to buy games from Epic because it feels like a bubble waiting to burst.
And when I think of that, it reminds me that we don't own anything on any of these platforms. We've gotten really complacent.

What does that even mean?
Posted on 12/24/21 at 10:47 am to Hu_Flung_Pu
It means we're handing over money for digital goods. The service provider can yank the rug at any time, and we're left with nothing while they have our cash.

Stay away from New World for now. User base collapsed, and the servers are now underpopulated. They will need an overhaul before that game is functional again.
But to swing back to your original question, yeah, tons. What are the specs of your rig, and what kind of games have you played in the past and enjoyed the most?

I have the same concern. They might make a deal with another company (like Steam) or they might release your library DRM free, but they might not. I'd rather just pay a bit more now to be on a platform like Steam that I trust to exist well into the future.

Older rig. May not even be able to run new world at minimum
I can meet everything except GPU is a Radeon r200 series from like 7 years ago.
I enjoy sim building - like No Oxygen Included. Also like RPGs. Not real keen on multiplayer shooters.

Dude. Why are you asking me about "new" games?

If you're looking for RPGs, you're going to have to settle for older ones. If you haven't played Oblivion and Fallout: New Vegas, you should. And you can get them for a song during Steam sales. You could probably also pull off the first two Bioshock games (Infinite would be pushing it).
I would also focus on indy games. Both Ori games are fantastic. Limbo is a great little indy puzzler. Speaking of puzzle games, Portal 1 and 2 are great (and yes, I know they aren't indy, before anyone decides to be a smartass).
But to circle back around, what games have you played and enjoyed? There's a lot of years of gaming history to go through

Yeah I know. I've played the fallouts, elder scrolls. I like the indie stuff. I'll check those out.
I have the bioshocks. Is the new baulders gate any good?
It's not like I haven't gamed on PC in seven years

I like rogue lite type games like Risk of Rain 2 as well
