I love my PS4 and the exclusives, but I'm ready for Sony to get their head out of their arse. And it's hard not to feel that way when you see Phil Spencer just kill it constantly with his messaging and how he just wants people to play games, however and on whatever. Easy to pull for a guy like that.

Fortnite on Xbox requires a gold subscription, but not PS+ on PS.
And Phil Spencer loves to talk, but that's about it most of the time.

I'm not defending Sony when I say this, but it's because they can afford to be dicks about this.
Microsoft is still in damage control mode and will remain there until they become top dog again.

I think what he's saying that if they have someone who would ordinarily buy a game on their PS4 to play with their friend, but they would prefer to play it on their XBone, that's a sell they lose out on.
But I always go back to Miracle on 34th Street. You know, that old black and white christmas movie that is really relevant. When Santa started telling people they could find toys at other stores when they couldn't find it at Macy's. Owners started wigging out until the customers started telling them they appreciated that bit of customer service and would shop at Macy's more often because of it. I think being open to the idea of crossplay is a positive image that could only help your brand.

Also this thread title makes it sound like John Smedley presided over all of Playstation's online services which he certainly did not.
He was in charge of a single studio that was primarily known for PC games called Sony Online Entertainment. Sony sold the company to a venture capitalist firm while they became Daybreak Games.

But don't pretend that this is Microsoft doing this as the good guy. Whoever is on top won't want to share. It is shite for the consumer but it is what it is.
