I would still play it if the disc didn't stop spinning

I loved my Dreamcast but it got to the point where I couldn't close the lid all the way or my discs would stop spinning after 15 minutes of play.

To fix the problem I would close the lid just enough to where the disc would spin but not enough so that the lid latched shut. I would then put a light book, or similar object, on the hinge to hold the lid down.

It worked wonderfully.

Find it hard to believe it'll happen.

I am hoping for a modern version of the Sega Channel with all of the old Sega games on it.

NFL 2K was so boring to play...

Pick Minnesota.. Culpepper to Randy Moss on a Hail Mary every time, and Moss caught it 8 times out of 10.

Why did Sega die? Bad management or people just weren't interested in the product anymore?

Though I've never owned one(Nintendo to Xbox here) I never knew anyone who disliked theirs

They never really supported the 32X or Sega CD so they probably lost a lot of money on those. The Nomad was a bust too. The Dreamcast had a weird controller that likely turned some people off. PS1 had just come out and finally killed them.

Would of been awesome if true. The Dreamcast was a great system, one of the most underrated of all time.

The beginning was when they lost consumer trust with expensive add-on consoles that didn't have enough games and didn't really make the base system, the Genesis, all that more powerful.

First it was the Sega CD, then the 32X. Then they announced the Saturn either at the same time or right after they announced the 32X (I can't remember).

The Saturn was designed to be more of a 2d graphics powerhouse when the gaming market was moving to 3d and it launched at a higher price point than the Playstation. At the time Nintendo seemed content sticking with the SNES so Sony was able to swoop in and steal a large amount of market share.

By the time the Dreamcast launched it was probably too late for Sega, despite the system being very progressive and initially selling well. Many Playstation owners were simply biding their time waiting for the PS2 and once it launched it was all but over for Sega.

They dropped out of the hardware business a couple of years later.

What caused Sega to fold?

Edit: NM see above.

Multiple hardware failures is the best way to summarize it.

People remember the Genesis and the Dreamcast and think of Sega fondly, but there was a ton of frick ups in between.

This is true. People do tend to look back on Sega with rose colored glasses, forgetting how they screwed over their fan base. However, back in those days they had probably the most talented and forward thinking game developers outside of Nintendo. They also weren't afraid to try new, crazy things and people loved them for it.

Seaman
Shenmue
Choo-choo Rocket (online competitive puzzle game)
Rez
Jet Grind Radio
Phantasy Star Online (an online RPG on a console: novel for the time)
Typing of the Dead
Space Channel 5 (before the dancing game craze)
Samba de Amigo (before the musical instrument craze)

Love or hate the above games, you gotta give it to Sega for at least taking risks.

Still one of the best games ever and still has a strong, niche following going strong.
