Rumor: PSN name changes are close, but big caveat for those still using PS3

Not a big deal for me since I got rid of my PS3 years ago, but this is a shame for anyone who still plays a bit on the PS3. Gardoki sent me the tweet and he said he's played his PS3 more than any platform this year.
The big issue is, I believe, was spelled out on the bombcast a while back. All files for PSN on the PS3 was associated with the usernames and not a separate user ID # that would never change (think the underscore mystery is solved). So by changning your user name, none of your old files would be associated with the new ID.
PS3 was kind of a mess.

This has been rumored for a while. I was wondering what the hangup was. Xbox let you change your username whenever you wanted.

I don't have a reason to change my PSN name, but can they not work around this?
What about the VITA/PSP?

Think they would have to do a tag or something to the files, like "xxxxx_mmm_sicboy_newname" or something to that affect and it apparently it's way more work than it's worth.

Literally all I want to do is capitalize the LSU in my name so the L doesn’t look like an uppercase I. Drives me insane

I see that Tidux was listening to this week's Sacred Symbols podcast.
But I'll see what solution they have. No change I'd change my name if I give up PS3 and Vita trophies/games.

Yeah, it needs to happen in a bad way. I just don't want to lose access to all of the things I've purchased on PS3.

I totally get it. Again, I don't have a PS3, and other than Ni No Kuni, all the games I owned on it I have available somewhere else. But it blows that they screwed up the network aspects of the PS3 so much that it's come to this.
I'd only want to get rid of the "mmm" on "mmm_sicboy". It's just a dumb reminder of something I used to think was cool. But I've been told that "mmm" is the secret to my powers. So why mess with a good thing?

Yeah I really need to put Xstud37 into retirement....I feel ashamed every-time I have to give it out.
ETA: If its true you lose trophies, then there is no way I do it...I had quite a few platinums on my PS3.
