Just rooted my HTC Thunderbolt yesterday and got the free wifi hotspot app and figured I would try online gaming connected to it.
Zero lag on COD4.
Played 6 games just to see if it would lag eventually but it didn't.
Carrier is Verizon and I was on 3g inside my home.

I'm telling you,I have LTE 4g switched off, couldn't get it IP here in Watson anyway.
Online games like a Mf'er for 1 1/2 hours with no lag issues.

I tethered my iPhone 4s 3G and couldn't play bc of the lag, also.

I am not tethering even though you would think that would be a better connection. Just set the phone up as a wifi hotspot and the xbox found it and online gaming I went.

I've used my jailbroken iPhone 4S AT&T 4G, and used the MyWi App to turn it into a hotspot and used it for my laptop when the power was out.
Was pulling about 4mbps according to speedtest.
Very quick on my laptop.

I was at 7mbps when I was using my xbox

I get 20Mbps and still find it lagging, because you ping is ALWAYS going to be over 100ms round trip when using cell data... that ping is never good.

Your speed means dick. Most of those cards see 150 to 200 Ms ping, which puts you at a definite disadvantage

I really don't understand all the lingo yall are talking but all I know is it worked better than my Cox Ethernet connected connection usually does.

My ping was at 87ms, at 4mbps.
Not bad at all for a 4G connection over an iPhone 4S, that's really 3G branded as 4G speed despite my area not even having 4G within 200 miles.
Was more than enough for my laptop, and I'd imagine gaming too.
Of course they'll start to throttle your Data quickly, if you're using it for gaming extensively.

I left At@t last year. As far as I know Verizon is not throttling anyone.

Yes, Verizon throttles also.

As proof pointed out, sadly I'm a pro at a tethered connection off verizons 3g. I dont care how good you think your connection is, on 3g your ping will never go below 150 and your lucky to pull that. 150 ms ping puts you at at a huge disadvantage on COD. As someone pointed out your mbps doesnt mean jack shite for gaming. Its all about ping. Dont worry about the data usage. COD uses a suprisingly small amount of badwidth, and no I was never throttled. I did this shite for months. I even broke 20+ gigs one month and they never did anything.

Sid lagged so bad he'd spread that shite like aids

It may not look like it's lagging on your screen but to the other players you look like you are ice skating across the map. You're lagging.
