Alright you golf nerds... I need tips.

I haven't golfed in a while, but when I did I mainly drank and swung a club. I am going golfing tomorrow and I need tips on hitting the ball straight. Whenever I hit the ball (I swing right handed) the ball goes right 95% of the time (I think that's a fade).

Where do I need to stand in correlation to the ball when hitting? How do I get good use out of irons? I can never really hit them well enough to care about using them. Any advice y'all can throw my way would be great. If I had to assign a handicap to myself, it'd be around +35

I think the last time I kept score, I shot a 110 on 18 holes.

1. golf
You havent played golf
You go play golf

Other golfers will make fun of you for this, so thats my first tip

2. I wish hitting it straight was as easy as a few tips from a message board , but Ill try to help you out

Tee box, the ball should be just off the heel of your front foot
Fairways, you can pretty much put it in the middle unless you're using a 3-wood, in that case see tee box

Keep your left arm straight, and right elbow poked in your side as long as possile in the backswing
focus on the back of the ball
drink, a lot

Thanks for the tips. I know most golf tips are better given on the course, but any thing I can take away from reading would go a long way.

Off the heel is in the ball as in front of my front foot, or off the heel as in the ball is between my legs?

im gonna print that out and put that on the steering wheel inside the golf cart

What about the spacing in my stance? How far away should I stand from the ball, and how far apart should I spread my feet?

If you want more details on why your ball flys the way it does, I've added the ball flight laws. The clubface and swing path dictate why the ball spins or starts out going a certain way. Different parts of your swing determine different reasons why the ball does this. This takes people many years to learn and repeat consistently. Good luck

what's more important for the path of flight the ball takes... the back swing or the follow through? Some people have told me that I am taking my backswing too far and that they can see that I am trying to kill the ball. They told me to take a half swing and I would get the same result.

Your backswing determines what you are capable of in your forward swing. If you go to far back you can have a problem with timing and rotating your hips and pulling your shoulder and arms through. The swing plane on your backswing can also determine the swing plane on your forward swing. Basically you want a in to in swing path. We are getting technical here and I can't explain all of this by typing. For your purposes, rotate your shoulders back while bringing the club face straight back and then around. Think of a catcher mitt behind you. You want to hit the mitt and then as your shoulders turn, the club face will turn with it. Attack the ball from the inside and behind it. Most important, your weight should be on your front foot at contact.

Whenever you are ready. I know how you should swing, I just can't duplicate it. Never practice.
